On 2004-08-08, Wayne Finch rated this Adams Idea A1 Hybrids a 5...(4001)

Purchase: i bought this set at golf town for 600 cdn. (free adams stand bag too)...got them cuz some loser broke into my car and stole my old set (prince tour de force offset - amongst the other brand name driver, fairway, and other clubs)
Pros: they are what i would consider mid-oversize (the adams gt are much bigger, and the adams hybrid are just slightly bigger), they are offset, cavity back with progressive weighting (the center of gravity is placed lower and lower the shorter the iron so it helps you to get the optimum traj. for each glub),they have a wider sole to help get the club through the grass with minimal "chunk" - you know what i mean, we've all dug to china once or twice lol...also, the 3 and 4 irons are hybrid clubs (wood distance and ease of use with iron accuracy) for those of us that have trouble with the long irons...i like these clubs for the reasons i have mentioned and more - they are forgiving but not overly so so you can still be creative with your shot alittle once you become a better player (most oversize clubs dont allow for creativness)...i have tried many clubs when i went for new ones (including x-16s and the much touted slingshot irons) and found the A1s to be the most versatile of the lot - i'm very happy with the A1s...by the way, if these are not forgiving enough, the Adams Hybrid set costs the same but are even more forgiving, and you still get the hybrid clubs...the only diff is that they are more for the beginer golfer and as such not as workable - i tried them too and they are just as good as the A1s, just i wanted something that eventualy i can work the ball with alittle when my skills improve
Cons: what i don't like? nothing except it took a theif (grrrrr) to make me go out and buy these clubs...if i had to choose something, it would be that the grips are too small for my freakishly long fingers lol, but there are very very few people that dont change their grips for ones that fit them properly anyway (who is this 'average' guy they make most clubs for anyway? lol)...dont get me wrong, the grips do their job admerably, just that for me, all grips are too small from the factory
Quality: quality? very good, nice shafts, nice heads, and the grips are aligned properly (yes, i have seen many a manufacturer put the grips on alittle wonky, and that does affect things alittle)...construction? same as above, nicely done and not gawdy looking (some clubs out there look to 'pretty' or clownish)...i practice occaisonaly on mats instead of grass and i can say with honesty with these clubs you wouldn't know - a quick scrub and all clean, no scratches....a mid level club that acts like a high-end

Review Summary: if you are looking for something that is forgiving, still workable when you get better, looks good, and wont make your wife file for divorce (lol), pick the Adams Idea A1 hybrids - you most definatly will be happy with your purchace :-)
