On 2005-02-23, pinehurst picked rated this Aldila NV 65 Stiff a 5...(5075)

Purchase: A friend had the NV 65 in his ERC driver and I was very impressed when he let me hit it. I had a local club maker order and install the NV for me. Cost was $103 total.
Pros: As I said previously, prior to having the NV shaft installed in my driver, a TaylorMade R series with a Proforce stiff flex shaft, I had hit a friend's ERC driver that had the NV 65 shaft. At first I felt that maybe it was simply the ERC head but he assured me that the results that both he and I had were primarily due to the NV shaft. Both of us are single digit handicappers. I was very impressed with what the Aldila shaft was showing me. So, looking for that "extra" distance that someone my age needs (I'm 50 years old) I decided to reshaft my TaylorMade with the Aldila. I was amazed at the results. The NV actually allowed me to slow down my swing tempo. The easier swing provided even greater distance. (Like every golf instruction magazine or book hasn't said that before!) I really liked the Proforce shaft that I originally had in my driver but the NV is even better. Not what I'd call a true stiff flex, the NV 65 is probably the exact flex that the majority of the golfers out there needs who are presently playing stiff flex. I've had a major increase in distance, in some cases as much as 25 yards. Averaging about 15+ increased yards. The shaft has a soft feel yet firm enough to give good feedback. I find working the ball off the tee to be easy.
Cons: There's nothing about the NV 65 shaft that I don't like. Nothing. The green color goes very well with the folding money that stays in my wallet at the end of the rounds.
Quality: A well constructed shaft, typical of Aldila. You hit a drive with this shaft and you know you're hitting quality. That's plain as I can put it.

Review Summary: My bottom line? If you have a good swing and want more out of your shots, buy the Aldila NV shaft. It does what "they" say it does. I've hit a lot of shafts and I'm a good golfer so I know the gppd stuff when I see it. A person with a bad swing won't fully benefit from this shaft. But don't blame the shaft, get lessons. Then get the shaft. Of course there are people out there who are going to complain about this shaft, nit-picking everything about it, but those same people will never find a shaft that will please them.
