On 2004-01-25, Andy rated this Alien 16 Degree Driving Iron a 5...(2689)

Purchase: $10 on eBay. Late last summer I suddenly couldn't hit my woods. I was getting along ok with just irons, but needed a bit more distance on the long par 4's to reach the green in 2 (I had been teeing off with my 5-iron), so I thought I'd try a driving iron.
Pros: It works just as I hoped. Average shots are 210-220 yards, though occasionally I hit it just right and get 240-250 (my son, more limber and flexible than I, regularly gets 230-240 with it, so I bought him one for Christmas). Seems pretty forgiving; even mis-hits are usually fairly straight and 150-180 yards.
Cons: I haven't really noticed any drawbacks to this club. I have tried it off the fairway with limited success, but I suspect that might be more about my swing than about the club.
Quality: Regular flex graphite shaft.

Review Summary: I have no complaints with this club. My first order of business this spring is to regain my wood-hitting ability, but if that fails, I will have no hesitation in picking up a couple more Aliens (14 and 20 degrees) and throwing my woods into the pond on the 10th. I have a 16 handicap.
