On 2003-07-09, D. Phelps rated this Alpha Version 2 400 cc a 5...(1742)

Purchase: I was reading about drivers in a golf magazine and noticed that the Alpha Reaction was used by many of the 2002 RE/MAX long drive contestants. The manufacturer was also making the club for left handed players. (I am a lefty and find the limited selection of golf equipment to be personally frustrating.) I also noticed that the price was more reasonable than most of the big names. I searched the internet and read as many reviews on this club as I could. Players spoke highly of it. I called some clubmakers who were assembling these drivers and they affirmed what I was hearing. I ordered mine from MKC Golf out of Mission,Kansas.
Pros: I really like this club. I still get reasonable distance if I hit it off center. I can hit this club farther than the three previous drivers I've owned and it's fun to hit. With the shaft I have, it is a light club and is well-balanced. I shot under my handicap the first time I played it.
Cons: I do think it is more forgiving, but I can still slice it if I put a bad swing on it. That's true though of all clubs. This is my first oversize head I've owned, and I notice that there is more wind resistance when you swing it.
Quality: I went with the Graffaloy Blue shaft and was told that it was an excellent match for the Alpha. Even though my swing speed is just a little more than 100 mph I went with the regular flex because it's a low-torque shaft. The Blue is Graffaloy's new lightweight shaft made specifically for large heads. I'm pleased with how sharp it looks with the Blue and received a compliment on it the first time out. I selected the 9 and a half degree loft.

Review Summary: If I had to pay more, I still would go with this club. Alpha Reaction is making a great forged ti driver for a fair price.
