On 2003-01-14, John rated this Bang Mellow Yellow 420 6* Driver a 4...(899)

Purchase: Club purchase from www.golf-components.com for $165. 6* of Loft with X-Stiff Harrison 2.5 Titanium shaft, the yellow one.
Pros: I just played 27 holes and 9 the day before with this club. Consider these my first impressions. The club is very long. I took 3 months off so my swing is not mechinically sound, but I still hit this club 300 with a fade. With a correct swing I've put a few out at 330 over the weekend. That's about 10 yards over my Hawkeye Pro 7.5* w/ UST 75 X-stiff. I like the color, despite it's brightness. I got many comments on the range over the weekend. Mainly people asking if this was the newest step in technology. The head is HUGE, espically compared to the HawkEye but this is my first large head driver. I've gotten used to it and the extra size does add some forgiveness. The club is no doubt HOT. The ball will jump and I only buy cheap, rock hard, top flite POS balls.
Cons: The size may be a little much for my tastes. I'll have to wait and see about that. I've been able to put some scuffs on the face due to sand on the range balls. However they aren't noticable. I would say the scuffing is better than average. It would be nice to have another color choice. Maybe like black or red.. The yellow screams "WATCH ME BOMB!!!" I guess that's OK, but I usually like to be the low key type. You won't sneak up on anyone in match play with this thing.
Quality: As mentioned, it has scufed a little but that was due to sand on the ball. Otherwise it's holding up better than my Callaways did when new. I just read the review about a Mellow Yellow's head caving in... man that's a little frightning. I've probabally hit about 80 balls with it over the past week... I'll let everyone know if it fails on me. Golf-Components offers a 1 year warranty for workmanship and material so long as it's within their normal use guidelines. So that is good. The shaft is great. I'm comming from a UST 75 X-Stiff, and this Harrison 2.5 Ti is even better. I think it's beause I got it 1/2" longer this time. So far no problems... despite a few scuffs the head is still new looking.

Review Summary: Distance, Massive Head, Look at Me!! appeal, maybe it scares your competition? It's taken some getting used to, espically the 6* loft (one little degree off on the swing and look out) and the head size but once that was over I'm liking the club. I've taken my HawkEye Pro out of the bag and I love that club. I have a scramble this weekend and a few more rounds before that. We shall see. Info about me: I swing about 120 normally and 130 or so when in a mad rage. I'm about 6"1'@180lbs. I'm carrying a 14.1 index handicap right now, 16 at my home course. That's up a litte thanks to my poor rounds this weekend, that 3 months off hurts.
