On 2004-12-07, Physics rated this Ben Hogan Tour Umbrella a 3...(4829)
Purchase: I have used Hogan equipment for years and currently use Hogan Apex Edge Pro irons, Hogan Fairway and Lob wedges, use Hogan Apex Tour ball, wear the Hogan legend glove and sunburst hat, use a Hogan putter and carry my clubs in a Hogan staff bag. Yes, I even have several books written about Ben Hogan. My wife (as a joke) calls me Ben. On a recent golf trip it looked like rain so I purchased a Hogan Tour umbrella I paid $60 for the umbrella at a local pro shop.
Pros: The umbrella is very large covering 68 inches and hangs low enough so rain does not come underneath the umbrella. The umbrella has a lower and upper canopy which allows wind to pass through so the umbrella keeps its shape. The umbrella's seams are backed to help prevent leaking if the canopy is extended by wind. The umbrella is sturdy and has a soft, perforated non-slip grip.
Cons: On my golf trip it did rain and I took the umbrella out of its sheath and opened it up. The seam on one panel split and the tip popped off the top. After the round I brought it back to the pro shop and was astonished a replacement or refund was not offered. Upon arrival back home I went to Nevada Bob's where I purchased all my other Hogan equipment and they graciously sent it back. Hogan replaced the umbrella with a new one. On the very first time I used it the same thing happend. The umbrella was sent back a second time and again it was replaced. Have not had any trouble with the new umbrella.
Quality: The umbrella is heavy duty. It appears the material the umbrella is made of is a very thin nylon like material. Any little flaw in the stitching will not stand up to the stress of opening. The tip is acutally screwed on and probably should have been checked before use.
Review Summary: To Hogan's credit they did replace the flawed umbrella without any problems. Probably have to rate the umbrella as average.
