Purchase: Found one of these in perfect shape while playing a fall round.
Pros: These are a long ball with good feel. They play a lot like the Nike One Black, if you have played that ball, but a little softer feel to it. Doesn't seem to spin very much off the driver, but still offers good spin on approach shots. The trajectory seems to be a mid-trajectory, especially off the tee. Nice touch around the greens.
Cons: Slightly prone to scuffing off the wedges on full swings. Discontinued model.
Quality: Good overall. Slightly more durable cover would be nice.

Review Summary: A very good quality ball. If you can find them on closeout or Ebay and can get a deal, it would be worth it. With so many good balls on the market, I can't say I would have liked paying $39.99 for this model, as there are slightly more durable balls on the market that fly just as far. Performance is a 5. Durability is a 3. Split the difference for a 4 overall.

Purchase: Started using Ben Hogan 382 golf balls years ago, then switched to Titleist Professional after Hogan stopped making the ball, then went back to Hogan when the Apex Tour came out. Purchased my golf balls at a local golf outlet store. The cost was $39 per dozen.
Pros: The Hogan Black is a great golf ball from from tee to green. The ball has tremendous feel with its thin cover, seems to carry like crazy, yet stops on dime. This ball rockets off the driver because of its lower spin rate and has a straight boring flight. The distance on this golf ball comes from carry not roll. The distance seems to extend from driver to the fairway woods. The ball travels a long way when hit with long or short irons. The ball can be worked (i.e., draw or fade) depending on your preference. For me it is a draw. The best part of this ball is its performance around the green. This the only golf ball that I have ever hit and have back up on the green with short irons. Shots hit with lob/sand wedges stick near the flag. The greens at our club have just been rebuilt and they are hard/firm because the new grass has not produced much of a root system. This ball still stops after hitting the green even with longer irons. For my game this ball is probably the closet to perfect I have seen.
Cons: The ball will lose its paint fairly quickly.
Quality: High quality golf ball in an attractive package.

Review Summary: The Ben Hogan company has produced a good performing golf ball for all aspects of the game. Probably lower handicap golfers will see the most benefit.

Purchase: I got them from my boss.
Pros: I liked the distance and spin.
Cons: The distance is inconsistent with off center hits.
Quality: Very good construction and looks.

Review Summary: Great ball and worth the market price.

Purchase: This ball has been "hot-hot-hot" in the press, on tour, and by several low handicap players in a local league(Fireman's So Cal). Good as they seemed, I just didn't want to pay $40 a dozen for the experience. So when I saw some guy on ebay was selling 3 doz @$27/per, brand new still in the box, I jumped.
Pros: I'm not a big hitter - 250 and when I'm in the groove, 265. I've played the Hogans three rounds now and I'm out there 265-270 all the time, even had a bomb of 305(hit the hill and rolled some truth be told). So they're longer. And don't ask me how, straighter too. But where they really earn their points is around the green. I can't back up a ball, but these babies hit and stop within a foot or less. Makes the putting (yes, they roll true)much easier.
Cons: I don't like the ebay guy didn't have 5 dozen because when I run out, I'm going to have to plunk out some gold dust. But to see one arcing out there long, high and straight..that's worth bucks.
Quality: I've read where some gorillas shred the covers around the green. Really? These hold up just fine. And one had a head butting contest with an ancient oak and kept its shape.

Review Summary: Try this ball, even at $40 per. It's worth it. I won my flight in the last tourney with them-first time in three years.
