On 2006-06-29, AndrewG rated this Ben Hogan Big Ben CS3 a 5...(7199)

Details: 10.5°, regular flex shaft, neutral bias

Purchase: I bought this club from the ProShop in South Africa after testing it out whilst shopping for a new driver. It cost me the equivalent of $200. I went to the shop with the intent of buying a Taylormade R5 but after trying the Big Ben I was sold.
Pros: The Big Ben is a great, aggressive looking club that is the easiest driver to hit of all I have tried. The stock shaft is great, the green Aldila NV. What makes this club so great is that it is really easy to hit it straight. Before my shot shape was a bit of a fade, and this was with draw bias clubs, but with the Big Ben it goes straight or draws nicely, even with the neutral bias. With previous drivers my average fairways hit were only about 30-40% but now I regularly hit about 60-70% of fairways.
Cons: Nothing
Quality: Very well constructed, great shaft, with an explosive face. Excellent quality in construction and design.

Review Summary: Although this driver is not the longest driver on the market, it is the most accurate I have hit (and I have tried just about all of them). I have doubled the number of fairways hit with it, and as a result have taken off about 5 shots off my scores. The slight loss in distance (probably about 10 yards less) is well worth the gain in accuracy. The loss in distance however may be due the the fact that this club does launch the ball quite high and I maybe should have opted for the 9.5° option, so consider trying a driver with a slightly lower loft than your normal.
