On 2006-01-11, S. Fletcher rated this Ben Hogan CS-3 12* Reg. Draw Bias a 4...(6592)

Purchase: Bought this driver new for $150. I had tried the 10.5 and liked it, but after reading that most golfers should actually go with a 11-12 degree driver, I bought the 12 from Golf Discount, where they have no range to try clubs, I just took a chance.
Pros: I like this driver so far, after one bucket of balls...definitely more distance than my previous driver (Great Big Bertha II 10 degree regular). The "draw" bias weighting is ok...I usually set up to play a draw off the tee anyway (like I said, I'm a small guy in search of extra distance) but with this club I don't have to close the clubface or my stance to draw the ball. I'd say I was carrying the ball about 210(?)+...compared to about 195-200 with the Callaway. It's very forgiving on mishits, although toe hooks can be pretty big. Good feel, easy to swing. I find most 45" drivers a bit ungainly, but this is pretty comfortable.
Cons: The headcover is kind of funky...but easier to get off than those on comparable big drivers these days. It is a LOUD sounding club...but that can be kind of cool. Mishits tended to be pretty big hooks, but that could be me, because I've done that with other drivers as well. It's not the prettiest driver ever, but I don't really care about aesthetics as much as performance and feel.
Quality: Quality seems very good, but it's very new, so time will tell on that one.

Review Summary: Bottom line is that if you are looking for a little more distance and forgiveness, this club is worth trying. In wetter climates, carry matters more than roll it seems, and I gained about 10 or more yards carry. The draw weighting seems to do what it's supposed to without too many bad side effects. Right now, these clubs are very cheap as well. Overall, very good for the price. It's hard to find a good 12 degree driver with a regular flex shaft and no offset, so this club is a good choice if you're looking for sometihng like that.
