Purchase: Purchased on golfdiscount.com for $599. No tax and no shipping. Saved over $150 from a local retail shop. Pros: The irons have a great feel over the ball. They are not a blade nor full cavity back, but a very nice compliment of both. The long irons go much further then other clubs I've hit. Cons: I think they could do a better job on the grips. My grips have worn over the last 6 months very quickly. Quality: Very good construction and quality of these irons. Review Summary: I would reccomend these irons to 0-10 handicaps. They are not real easy to hit but when you do get them clean, they are awesome. Overall, I am very happy with these irons and as a 10 handicap, my game can grow into them.

Purchase: golf shop for $350 Pros: I think these irons are some of the best looking clubs out there. They setup great and give me alot of confidence over the ball. I love the forged design and for being forged they are extremely playable and forgiving. I think they are the best irons I've played, and I have tried them all. Cons: The wedge is a little clunky. Quality: Solid construction and very well designed. Other club makers change their irons every year, Hogan has a good design and sticks to it. Review Summary: I would recommend these clubs to anyone that is looking for a forgiving set of irons that are playable yet not bulky. Purchase: I bought these irons from a retail shop for $150 AUD per iron with a free hogan bag. I bought them in Australia at a House of Golf near my house. Pros: These sticks have to be the ultimate irons. They are forged which I find allows increadable feel. I never feel a pure shot but hit in out of the toe and you'll know it. I picked up a club in length but the main feature which really impressed me was the accuracy that I acheived. These irons are players irons. They only have a half cavity and as such are not as forgiving as full cavities. But the shape and size of the blade allows ample workability. fade 5 yards? it will fade 5 yards if the swing is right. In other words, if you want to step up a level the these are real players clubs. Cons: The only gripe I have with them is that the heads on the short irons could be a little less cumbersome but this hasn't affected my performance. The other thing is that the E or pitching wedge is very powerful and I some times overshoot with chips. Quality: Highest quality as is the norm from Hogan. The hogan shafts are very high quality. Review Summary: Buy them only if you are a semi-consistant ball striker as only people of this class will acheive real joy out of them. Purchase: After viewing several commercials about Ben Hogan irons, I decided to visit the Ben Hogan web site. A video showing the production of these irons was very informative and helped me with my decision to purchase these irons. I found a new set of Edge Pro irons on eBay for $455. Pros: The Edge Pro's are the irons that are in between the Apex Blade and the Apex (oversized) Edges. The Pro's are smaller than the Apex Edge. Their topline is thinner with a narrower sole and reduced offset which makes them akin to a blade, even though they are a cavity back iron. They are a one piece forged iron and made in the USA. They are very eye appealing on set up, so this in itself inspires confidence. Playing with the Pro irons gives you the advantage of a blade while providing a decent measure of forgiveness.
Cons: The tip of the Apex steel shaft is a little softer than the True Temper Dynamic Gold steel shaft. For very strong hitters, the Apex shaft may launch the ball a little too high. In that case, you may want to special order a different shaft like the DG shaft or Royal Precision rifle shafts. And if you're having one of those days when you've lost your swing, as with any forged iron, they are going to accent your mistakes like you've never played before. With a cast iron you may be able to get by somewhat when this happens, but with forged, forget it!
Quality: The craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into these irons is above board. There were no visible flaws in these irons. I had all of these irons checked at a local Pro shop. The swing weights, shaft frequencies and club lenghts of all the clubs were perfectly matched according to production spec's. This is impressive as most store sets that are made for the public are mismatched. Review Summary: Hitting these irons on the sweet spot is a feeling that would make any golfer beg for more. Once I found it, I couldn't put them down. These irons fly! If you're looking for height and distance, these irons are it! On 2004-08-24, hookedongolf rated this Ben Hogan Apex Edge Pro a 5...(4147)
Purchase: I found these on tgw.com. I saw "new lower price" listed by these so I checked into them. I read a lot of good reviews on them so it convinced me to give them a try and I'm glad I did!! I paid $599 with free shipping when originally these sold for around $750. Pros: I love these clubs!! They have a tremendous sweet, soft feel when striking the ball and they produce a nice powerful ball flight. If you're a good ballstriker you'll fall in love with these if you try them. I've also noticed my distance consistency is better than I had with my oversized cast cavity backs that I used to play. The best thing I like about these clubs is they set up beautiful at address..a thinner topline and little offset like a blade but it's perimeter weighted so there's much greater forgiveness than a blade. Another thing I love about these clubs is the apex #4 shaft (stiff). It's a stiff shaft but it's considerably lighter than dynamic gold s300 shafts that I had in a set of rac lt's that I had tried. This allows me to keep my swing speed up but still have control of my shots. Plus the apex shafts are manufactured by Royal Precision so you know they're quality shafts. Oh yea, they're also frequency matched just like rifle shafts. Cons: The only thing I don't like (and it's the same with any forged iron) is that they dent and ding easy because of the soft steel. I use club glove iron covers which protects the hosel and the head so that helps prevent a lot of bag wear. Quality: Awesome clubs..Hogan irons are known for top notch quality and these irons are just that! Review Summary: I think these clubs are one of the best options available for a low to mid handicapper who is looking for a club that is in between an oversized game improvement iron and a blade. Purchase: Golf Specialty shop in France, 1300 US dollars, Iron 3 to Equalizer (PW) ; Apex Shaft No4 (sitff) Pros: I played during the last 3 years the Ben Hogan Forged Blades which gave me the illusion to be a serious One digit handicap player due to their incredible feed-back. Nevertheless, I has a hard time to play decently Iron 2 to 4n especially on early morning humid european courses.....
The dilemma was to find a set giving the sensations of blades from Irons 5 to PW and the forgiveness and accuracy for irons 2 to 4. In order to keep the Ben Hogan quality standards, I bought 2 months ago those clubs. After 12 rounds, I do confirm that those clubs are GREAT. Those clubs gives Great feel, distance and control. Also, they give a full ability to shape shots (fade, draw, low or high or drop and stop
trajectories. Iron 3 and 4 feel like hitting standard iron 6/7.
They go a long way too. On windless conditions, I have gained 10 yards per clubs compared to previous set.
Well, I am becoming a true fan of the Ben Hogan quality. Lot of people criticize their Apex steel shaft but I believe those shafts are even better than Rifle. I play the stiff(Hogan No4) and they are fabulous steel shafts, even in the deepest rough... Off sweet-spot shots go with less distance but still, they go straight anb allow for recovery. Cons: 1) I do not like the loft of the Equalizer (PW) on those Apex Edge Pro which is at 46 deg. while the loft of the Equalizer on the Forged blades Apex is at 48 deg. I had to buy a Gap wedge at 50 deg loft to compensate loft differences with my 54 and 58 deg wedges.
2) After-Sales service in Europe sucks compared to the Ben Hogan services in the USA. I had, after the first round some red paint going out from Iron 6 and 8. The Hogan people in Europe (Brussels I think) did not give a damn about it... LOUSY SERVICES....but hey, can't get everything Nice and Easy. I prefer a good set with Bad services than the contrary.
Quality: Great quality standard (as per Ben Hogan long time club making history.
HIGHEST QUALITY STANDARDS IN THE INDUSTRY Review Summary: A MUST, State of the Art clubs, a must for low to mid handicappers looking to improve and stabilize their games. On 2002-08-15, Shooting for Par rated this Ben Hogan Apex Edge Pro a 5...(406)
Purchase: I bought these custom made at wholesalegolfequipment.com for $549.00. It took a week to receive them. Pros: I had these custom made to my exact specifications, 1/2 inch over, 2 degree upright. The clubs are beautiful, shiny and soft. I bought the apex steel shaft because of the light weight, it was a smart buy. At stepup, I know exactly where I will be aiming and hitting. I tried Mizuno Mx-20, but those do not have the same consistency, impact but they do have a bigger head (don't know why). The muscle back on these clubs give my ball a kick and flight. I have been hitting about 1 1/2 clubs longer over my old cast iron set, ie PW-150 yards, 5-iron 205 yds. I pick and choose target and have no problem hitting them. The feel is just right allowing me to alternate short and long distances w/ a club and having no problem hitting each targets. These clubs are very forgiving on missed hits. I hit each club well from PW-3 iron. FORGED IS BETTER! I will continue to grow with these clubs for the rest on my life. Cons: I have no dislikes, I am glad I canceled my Mizuno MX-20 order to buy these Pros. Quality: To reiterate. I had these custom made to my exact specifications. 1/2 inch over, 2 degree upright. The clubs are beautiful, shiny and soft carbon steel. I bought the apex steel shaft because of the light weight, it was a smart buy. The clubs are lighter, stronger, better and forgiving. Hogan FORGED IS BETTER! Review Summary: Between Mizuno and Hogan, go with the Hogans you will not be unhappy. Better clubs, better performance, better price and American Made.(Nike's designer use to work at Hogan.) On 2002-08-14, thumper joe rated this Ben Hogan Apex Edge Pro a 5...(399)
Purchase: My golf pro told me to buy them because he thought it would suit my hitting.I paid $1700AUD approx $800US for 10 irons and they were aquired through my golf pro's store. Pros: One of the best looking clubs i have seen and playing off a handicap of 5 they suit me to a tee. Easy to draw and fade the ball with and beautiful ball flight. Cons: Liked all of it but could have been a little more forgiving when you just don't catch it sweet. Quality: Solid club, pretty much like all your top brands eg:callaway, taylormade, and they are beautifully weighted, as soon as you grab the club in your hand you know your holding a quality product. Review Summary: The apex edge pro is the best iron i have hit and i have tried most irons. I recommend these irons to anyone who has a low to mid handicap. You will hit the ball longer and feel as though you have more control over your shots. On 2002-05-25, Deliberate Dave rated this Ben Hogan Apex Edge Pro a 5...(130)
Purchase: Auction on Ebay $489.00!!!
I had been playing another brand but at a D-0 weight they were too light for me. Pros: I hit them several times, both #4 and #3 shafts and each time the ball would go exactly on line with my swing. I could also draw and fade at will. But the most attractive aspect was the feel. A well struck ball felt exactly like I have imagined it should and and the corresponding ball flight was truly inspiring. Cons: The standard grips are not round but have a small ridge that runs along the bottom. I've gotten used to their feel but they will be replaced. Quality: Excellent. Their matching methods produces club sets that are consistent throughout the set. Review Summary: Outstanding. I can't imagine finding any other clubs I'd rather play.
