On 2005-10-30, David from Dallas, Texas rated this Ben Hogan CFT Hybrids a 4...(6352)

Purchase: I wanted to upgrade my game. About nine months ago I paid $650 for a graphite set of CFT Hybrid Irons from Golfsmith.
Pros: I hit the ball further, significantly further, with these irons. If I used to use a 7 Iron for a particular shot, with the Hogans I now use a 9 Iron. And, the ball lands like a dart on the green. My shots do not back up with backspin, but I often find my ball about three feet from my ball mark on the green. Amazing. I never did this with my old Harvey Penick Irons. They are also very forgiving. I see few slices. Even slightly mishit shots do well. A number of reviews use the word "penetrating" to describe the ball flight. Thats its. I am not sure why, but the ball seems to take off with a penetrating path that seems to have more energy than my swing.
Cons: I bought the Hybrids, because everyone recommended them. So, the 4 and 3 are hybrids. Frankly, I do not like them. I am sure they are great clubs, but not for me. In general, I have found hybrids to be poor fits for people, like me, with steep swings. I definintely hit down on the ball. I wished I had gotten the regular set, not the hybrids. Also, the irons occasionally scuff up the balls. (The face has such sharp grooves, they produce a tremendous downward cut on the ball, producing the backspin.) But, unless I keep a ball in play for an entire round, rare, I don't notice the scuffs.
Quality: These are beautiful clubs.

Review Summary: I would recommend these clubs to anyone, except someone who is already shooting in the 70's and likes forged blades.
