On 2005-05-04, Bartman rated this Ben Hogan 1i Edge CFT a 5...(5483)

Purchase: The shaft in my 3 wood came loose (not suprising as it is about 20 years old!) and I thought it was time to check the new big thing...hybrids! I got it as my local pro shop for ZAR999 (+-$150)
Pros: Goes miles and straight. I play off a 4 handicap and we have a four ball of single figure handicaps, one of which plays off a 1 handicap and kills his 3 wood. Well, all I can say is that I was hitting it as far if not further and just as accurate if not more. The contact is solid, you can feel the clubhead and asthetically it looks good when you stand over the ball. I tried the Taylormade and the Nike hybrid and this was just so much better. Very consistent in what it does. Great for short, tight par 4's and second shots on long par 5's. I have even used in on long par 3's when into the wind. I am not even considering buying another 3 wood.
Cons: Nother really. I did notice the little collar abover the hosel came up a bit and I had to screw it down again but made no difference to the performance.
Quality: Very good, save for what I mentioned above. A great club though.

Review Summary: Hybrids are the future! The only thing is you must try a lot of them before you make your mind up though. I have friends who swear by the Taylormade and the Nike but they did not work for me nearly as well as the Hogan. I think most of the top hybrids out there are good but perhaps suit different swings and you must just make sure you get the one that suits yours.
