Purchase: Purchase: I have used Hogan equipment, balls and accessories for years and decided to give the Hogan/Bettinardi putter a try. I purchased mine at local golf warehouse as part of a deal to also buy a Hogan staff bag. I paid $275 for the putter.
Pros: This is a very balanced putter with a plumbers neck, heel-toe weighting, a cavity back design, and comes with a rubber pistol grip.
The shaft is made by Precision, makers of Rifle shafts which is what I have in my irons and provides for a measure of consistency.
The honeycomb milled face and the insert is highly polished and flat. I have a digital protractor that is accurate to 0.01 inches and the reading was 179.95 degrees which is almost perfect.
The cavity back part of this putter is smooth looking yet not so polished as to reflect sunlight in a blinding way like some other putters.
This is a heavy putter and with its soft insert provides tremendous feedback The balance and design combine to make it easier to produce a smooth roll.
The bottom of the putter is slightly convex which allows easier putts from off the green.
The cover provided is made of leather and is of high quality and comes with an American flag on the side.
Cons: Although not quite as prone to rusting like some other milled carbon steel putters it still needs to be wiped down and left to dry after playing in the rain or on heavy dew.
The carbon steel is soft and this putter should not be carried without its cover because it will nick very easily.
Quality: Very well constructed and balanced with consideration given to a pleasing design that helps alignment. The alignment from shaft to putter head is meticulous.
Review Summary: The Bettinardi putters are very high quality and functional equipment available off the shelf. It deserves to be associated with the Hogan name.
