On 2004-10-23, Timothy G. rated this BirdieBall The BirdieBall with Strikepad a 5...(4665)

Purchase: I have a fairly large yard near a forest, so I used to pitch balls that sometimes wound up in the woods or plugged in the soft part of my yard. I first learned about the BirdieBall one morning while watching Cold Pizza on ESPN2. The show's host dropped this thing that looked like a napkin ring on the ground and hit it IN THE STUDIO! He said that a company has developed a product that hits and flies like a golf ball, yet only flies forty yards. I jumped online and bought a dozen for $16.99 plus S+H. I bought the StrikePad off of Ebay for $14.99 plus S+H.
Pros: I first used the BirdieBall in my front yard. I dropped the BirdieBall on my lawn and struck the ball. It flew just the way my slice usually takes a ball! However, it only flew about 35-40 yards to the soft area and stayed on the top of the grass. It flies well with slices, hooks, and even straight shots. When I got the Strikepad, I was fairly skeptical about being able to hit the BirdieBall off the concrete with the StrikePad. I started off using it on my grass and it was very easy to hit with this. I didn't make any divots in my lawn. I later used the Strikepad with the BirdieBall in my back parking lot and had no damage to my club - even swinging full and down through the ball! The BirdieBall bounced about ten feet after I hit it, but it flew true to form and is safe to hit cars (won't scratch).
Cons: The BirdieBall is costly. $16.99 for a dozen practice balls is a bit much. If you include shipping, the cost can get up to $25.00! Perhaps, if you got a dozen at X-mas, a dozen for your birthday and a dozen on Father's or Mother's Day, then the cost of these could be justified.
Quality: The construction is a durable plastic. It could be Lexan. I have hit this Birdieball with my 2 iron and pitching wedge. It simply does not break. The StrikePad is flimsy, but it's supposed to be that way to protect your clubhead.

Review Summary: If you can afford it, buy a couple dozen of these and swing away in your front yard, local park or even your company's parking lot. Get the StrikePad and save your lawn and your clubhead!
