On 2006-11-28, Phil rated this Burrows MAC Powersphere 8.5* a 5...(7534)
Details: Club came with a Fujikura stiff flex shaft
Purchase: I bought a second hand set of clubs off a friend of mine for $80. The driver that came in his set was quite beat up but it served its purpose for a while until one of my friends who has been playing for several years told me to invest in a new driver. I found the MAC Powersphere on eBay for under $40 after shipping.
Pros: With my old driver, being even the slightest bit off center ment a horrible shot. With this club and it's truly 'Hot Face' I can be off center and still end up with a perfectly straight shot with no real penalty in distance. The same friend who told me to buy a new driver laughed when I first pulled the head cover off this club, saying anyone who saw me playing with something so odd as a club with a hole in the bottom would know I was an amature. I then proceeded to out drive him, both in distance and direction, on every hole but two prompting him to reconsider the usefullness of his $259 Nike Sasquatch. I also play mostly with Slazenger Raw Distance 408di balls which feel about the same as granite when you drive off the tee, the only reason I play these balls is because the same friend sold me four dozen for ten bucks. With the MAC technology that Burrows uses in this club I hardly feel any of the stinging vibrations I used to.
Cons: I can find nothing truly wrong with this club besides the overly loud 'pinggg' sound made when you hit a ball. As one review I read on this website mentioned it does cause a few curious looks in your direction, but these looks turn into dropping jaws when they see where your ball ends up.
Quality: The club is made beyond even my expectations. I admit that when I bought the club my main concern was cost, so I figured even though this club looked odd, even cheap, it would just have to sufice. I was completely wrong on the cheap part. This club has made it through some really bad days and is still as explosive and forgiving as it was the day I received it. I'm definitely more than satisfied with the construction.
Review Summary: I know this club retails for a lot more than I paid for it if bought custom fitted from a dealer but if you are just beginning and can purchase it on eBay for as little as I did, I promise you will never regret it. I've recently adopted a new swing style, called 'quiet golf' and can be found on the Krank Golf website, with outstanding results. On my last trip to the course I ended up about two yards off the green on a 387 yard par four. I've straightened up my slice and added a consistent 40 yards to my drives.
