On 2005-04-04, Marcus rated this Burrows MAC Powersphere Driver a 5...(5314)
Purchase: After reading about this driver online, I grabbed one off of ebay with a regular flex shaft for $49. It was part of my ongoing search for SOME kind of driver that made it worthwhile giving up my 3 wood off the tee. I tried a whole bunch ... Adams, Macgregor, Tour Edge, etc ... every driver I hit was an embarassment, hence the 3 wood.
Pros: Ooooohhh baby! I am not a big hitter but shoot in the 80's, and my driver, when i COULD hit it straight, only went about 200 yards .... if I tried to muscle it up beyond that, I got a big slice into the trees. This Powersphere driver is smooth, almost effortless (the MAC aspect really does seem to dampen the vibrations), and my average drives are now 230-240, with some up to 260, which was simply not possible for me before. It is also much straighter than any other driver, and I find the fairway twice as often now. The face IS very forgiving, and you are not punished much for off-center hits. PS I also purchased the 3 wood for $49, and it is equally long and straight. I dumped my Nike CPR 18* for the Powersphere 3 wood.
Cons: Not a thing. The Powersphere is IN the bag, and the other drivers are going up for sale! It is so good that I know that if anything goes wrong with a shot, it is because of me, not the driver. And things go wrong a lot less often than before.
Quality: Top notch. Looks like a normal bland driver until you turn it over and see the big divot missing from the center of the club ... but this weird construction isn't a gimmick .... it truly makes a difference ... long, straight, easy drives. Construction seems excellent after a couple of months of rough winter use. Although I bought a stock club from ebay (and paid almost nothing for it) Burrows has a great fitting system that can help a lower handicap (or richer) player get a perfect clubhead/flex fit. Check for this locally.
