On 2005-04-26, Mr_Divots rated this Bushnell Yardage Pro Trophy Laser Rangefinder a 5...(5444)

Purchase: Purchased off Amazon.com for $179.00 including delivery. Had compared many models, and this one had everything I wanted.
Pros: This is a "hunting" model. It was less expensive, but offers all the features the "golf" models have. Reads to a pin from 300 yards, 500 yards to a tree, and 800 yards to a reflective object (like a window.) Uses a standard 9 volt battery. Has been accurate and easy to use. One button operation. Carry case included. I called Bushnell to ask them why this model is $100-150 less than the "golf" marketed models. They said there is no difference really, it is the same underlying technology. Very small size (fits in palm of your hand.)
Cons: The button is somewhat small. It would be nice if it was a little bigger. No big deal, still easy to operate.
Quality: So far so good. It has proven accurate and performed to manufacturer claims. One tip for getting yardages to a pin: If there is no wind and the flag is hanging flat, try shooting the group ahead of you as they take the pin out, or shoot the ground right in front of the pin. If the flag is hanging down, it can be hard to get a reading off the pin itself.

Review Summary: Great tool for golfers to choose the right club with confidence. Helps to speed up play, as there is no need to find sprinkler heads and walk off distances. The rules of golf do not allow for rangefinders at this time. However, the USGA handicap manual states they can be used for rounds scored for handicap purposes. In other words, they can't be used in competitions. Not a problem for most of us!
