On 2009-05-03, TomS rated this Callaway Big Bertha a 3...(8354)

Details: Big Bertha Diablo Red

Purchase: Walmart, Madsonville, to help with my distance with the driver $22.99
Pros: helps slow club head speed drivers and has pretty good feel around the green
Cons:
Quality: 2 piece ball high resilance core

Review Summary: Pretty good ball reasonably priced

On 2006-06-27, Kyle rated this Callaway Big Bertha a 4...(7190)

Details: The 2006 combination of former Big Bertha 'Red' (Distance) and 'Blue' (Feel); 2-Piece 'Soft Distance' ball.

Purchase: I usually buy them at Target Department Stores for $19.99.
Pros: I used to play Big Bertha 'Blues' until they were discontinued, and the new Big Bertha is noticeably longer and moderately straighter. You lose some in short game spin and feel, but for mid-to-high handicappers you won't notice too much. The price is affordable... about $20 less than top of the line Titleists, but a bit more expensive than the 'cheapies'... you get what you pay for in that regard. But a good, solid ball.
Cons: The scuffing problem that Callaways have has been improved in recent years, but these do scuff more easily than Titleists. I do miss the choice between 'Feel' and 'Distance' that the old Berthas had. Now you only get one version, and if it doesn't work for you, you have to spend more on the Three-piece HX Hot (Distance) and HX Pearl (Lo-co). And they are more pricey.
Quality: Cover: Ionomer. Core: 'Soft, high-speed rubber' (from the box description). Two-piece construction. The ball holds up nicely usually and is easy to clean. High-loft wedges will scuff them up, be prepared. But otherwise, good quality.

Review Summary: Very good ball for middle-to-high handicappers who play lots of rounds (I live in MN, and I play about 5-10 rounds a month during the summer). The price point makes it affordable, and it's the best ball you're going to get without spending more.
