Purchase: Local Dealer, 39.95 + tax
Pros: Nothing in particular!
Cons: Distance is sub-par. Less than Pro V1x; Less than Maxfli Revolution Tour (by far!) and Less thna Precept U-Tri Tour (by the most!) Worse is the fact that is has virtually no "bite" on short shots around the green!
Quality: Construction is fine and quality is excellent.

Review Summary: Best the "tour quality" balls on the market are (IN ORDER): 1) Maxfli Revolution Tour 2) Precept U-Tri Tour (esp. in fast & hard conditions) 3) Nike ONE Black

Purchase: After trying one a friend let me borrow, I bought several 2 ball trial packs for $5.99 each at Bobicks.
Pros: This ball is as long as any ball made. It is good at holding greens without spinning back off the front. The cover holds up good compared to other premium balls. It doesn't fade and tear like a Titleist.
Cons: This ball is far from being a rock but it isn't quite as soft around the greens as a Pro V1. Chips and pitches run out a little further.
Quality: It is the longest lasting premium ball I have played.

Review Summary: This is as good a ball as there is today.

Purchase: Purchased at Golf Discount House. Paid 40.00 for a dozen. I was looking for a "Pro-V1 with a little less spin". I have played two dozen.
Pros: I like the distance off the woods, stability and the short game feel, including putting. I also like the medium spin - just right for my course which has soft greens.
Cons: I'm only getting about two or three short iron shots before it's unplayable due to really bad scuffs. My wedges tear large grooves in the cover. I would continue to play the ball if I could get more than three or four short iron shots with it. I'm not a big hitter - 90 mph driver speed.
Quality: Great except for the wear.

Review Summary: This is the best ball I've played for my game and my home course, but using $10 worth of balls a round (not counting the ones I lose) is too expensive.

Purchase: $40 a dozen at Golf Galaxy
Pros: Very responsive and lively entry in the premium ball market. Soft off the wedges and putter. Nice and hot off the driver with more roll than proV1 and proV1x. Checks in nicely with the short and midirons. Durable except for cart path rash. Great wind ball which is nice if you live in Iowa as I do.
Cons: Pretty pricey. Not as durable as some of the competition.
Quality: First class finish and packaging.

Review Summary: Hot off the tee, soft around the green. One bounce check off the irons. Callaway has a winner and I have a new ball with a cool logo.

On 2004-01-11, Thomas Van Hoose rated this Callaway HX Tour Ball a 5...(2654)

Purchase: At Edwin Watts
Pros: This is the best ball I have ever played in the wind. It held its line perfectly even in 20-25 MPH cross winds. (South FL) Good around the green not to much spin, good off the Irons and pretty good distance, not the longest ball but pretty long.
Cons: Price...other than that its great.
Quality: Good quality one ball lasted almost two rounds

Review Summary: If you play in the wind buy it. If you just want a good all around ball get it.
