Purchase: I was in Florida two months ago and had the opportunity to demo a number of new clubs in a variety of shaft and loft configurations. I wasn't really in the market for a new driver but after spending an afternoon hitting the PING G2, TaylorMade R5 & R7, Cleveland Comp 460, and the 454, it was clear to me that the 454 was the better of the drivers for me. I didn't buy the club till I got back home and after checking things out on Ebay came up with the same configuration I hit with such success in Florida...10 degree with Aldila NVS65-S shaft...for $275.00...about $75.00 under the best price I could find.
Pros: The entire set-up is just very well designed and has a very nice feel to it...as well as a pleasing physical appearance. For the past year I've been using a Nike Ignite 410cc in 8.5 degrees with an Aldila NV65-XS, and enjoyed great succes. It took me some time to get used to the size of the Ignite after coming off using a Titleist 983E but the 454, though larger, does not give the appearance of a large club. The ball comes off the face with a very pleasing sound and trajectory...you can work the ball a bit, though I don't generally work the ball. Distance, for me, is around 275 on the fly...I should say that I play to a 9 handicap and hit a fairly straight ball, the driver rarely gives me a problem. The price was right, even if I didn't get such a good deal off of Ebay with the upgrade, factory installed, Aldila NVS shaft.
Cons: Nothing...
Quality: Typical excellent Callaway quality, including a great looking headcover.

Review Summary: There are so many excellent drivers on the market and the prices are really good...look at what you can get an R7 for on Ebay. Callaway, normally a leader in high priced drivers, has hit on something with the 454, a great driver with a great price. Demo all you can...try as many drivers in as many shaft & loft configurations as you can as it will help you get the most out of your game...I don't think you can go wrong with this offering from Callaway.
