On 2007-05-08, dcb rated this Callaway FT-5 Tour a 5...(7743)

Details: 9.5 neutral with UST V2 67 gram stiff

Purchase: I purchasd this club from the clubfitter at the Tappan pro shop. He installed and pured the UST V2. Paid $469 total. Well worth the investment.
Pros: I have an 85 gram UST V2 regular flex shaft in my Titleist 13 degree 906f. It's a completely different shaft with a huge kick but equally consistent. I was sold on this brand from my 3 wood. For the bogey golfer, these shafts are perfect. Long and straight. I love the sound of this driver. Not corky like the FT-3.
Cons: Callaway uses the .350 tip. Maybe to counter the lack of a bore through hosel. I don't know if I don't like it but a .335 option could benefit. I really don't care for the headcover. The inside of mine feels a bit rough and it seems it may leave hairline scratches on the gloss after a while. Contacted Callaway about this and they are sending me another headcover just in case the one I have is defective. Callaway is a great customer service company.
Quality: Beautiful club. The quality seems great. Many of the models out this year seem just completely over the top, even the new Titleist drivers seem oddly clownish. For me, the FT-5 tour is understated and has a great set up at address.

Review Summary: This is my first Callaway driver. I've had Cleveland 400cc launcher, Titleist 905t and 983k and Taylormade R7 TP over the past 7 years. Didn't like the Cleveland. Didn't care for the 905t. Liked the 983k and the R7 quad but never changed the setting from neutral. I love this driver. It's taken me a few years trying out combos of drivers and shafts, but for me, a lighter stiff with medium torque is perfect. I do suggest puring. It's not expensive and well worth it.
