On 2004-09-29, Mike Baker, a 15 handicap rated this Callaway Big Bertha 2004 Fairway Woods a 5...(4505)
Purchase: I bought these metals from Bass Pro Shop on sale for $199 each. . . .OUCH. My old TaylorMade midsize driver and 3 metal (15 years old), which I had really loved, so solid and faithful like a familiar old friend, had done "give up the ghost". I had lost the head on my 3 wood twice and the last time was unable to find it; so I started looking around for a replacement. I was willing to consider all brands and did a lot of reviewing online and some hands on testing but became curious about Callaway; a brand I have never owned, but knew of others who owned older models they would never give up. The online reviews of Callaway's older metals seemed mixed; like Callaway was struggling a bit with design. When I read of their new design incorporating the best loved design characteristics of their older models into a new design: I settled on these. Having played aprox. 10 rounds with these things I have decided to submit my review, mainly because I was unable to find any reviews on these metals anywhere online and thought others may be asking the same questions I was. My review. . .
these are soooo sweet and solid I'd give 'em a 10. I'm getting easily as much distance out of my new 3 metal as I was out of my old driver; and the warbird sole is so easy to hit that if I'm using it off the tee I would almost rather hit it right off the carpet as off of a tee. It is as straight as you would ever want off the tee or fairway; you can work it left or right almost intuitivly. I am so happy to have made this selection and would wholeheartedly recommend it to all, either as a beginner or scratch golfer. I picked these metals right up and easily transitioned to a 30 yard gain off the fairway. Hope I have helped someone who is looking for a review of some kind on these new Callaways.
Pros: So easy to hit; really nice "click" on contact. Super solid construction. I think Callaway has made the right choices in deciding to combine the fruits of their past experiences and the most favorable qualities that players are looking for.
Cons: The price tag really hurts, in my opinion. If you look around you can probably find 'em for a tolerable price for a premium metal that will really reward.
Quality: I'm impressed. . .I never thought I would be happy with anything but my TaylorMade's. The Callaway is a high quality club that will last me a long time.
Review Summary: I can't imagine anyone would be dissapointed in these metals. They are so easy to use and well built.
