On 2004-02-03, Fred B rated this Callaway Big Bertha 2004 Irons a 5...(2729)

Purchase: An acquaintence at a local golf store told me about the Big Bertha irons and how easy they were to hit. He let me demo his and after I hit them, I discovered that they are the easiest irons to hit, ever. I bought them for $579.00.
Pros: I intentioally took these irons to a driving range when it was 19 degrees outside. I compared them to my Taylor RAC-OS, and every iron of the Big Bertha out hit the RAC. Not only were they easy to hit on line but the distance and ball pattern was amazing. In the cold, I never felt any shock in my hands from the BB. If I hit them like this in the cold, I can't wait until it warms up in Tulsa.
Cons: The iron head is very unique, compared to tradional iron design. It is quite larger than most with a lot of metal being seen on the back of the iron when addressing the ball. The design of the iron makes it difficult to work the ball. But what is wrong with a straight shot?
Quality: I've used Callway irons before. In the past I played with graphite shafts which seemed to be somewhat inferior. I chose the steel shafts on this set and love the feel. I seem to have more control with the steel. The high polish chrome with the black/red inset on the back is extremely attractive. It looks like a very expensive and well constructed iron. Plus the support from Callaway is a plus. They know how to treat a customer.

Review Summary: It is real easy to overlook the unique design of the iron after you hit the ball. My focus in golf is playing and scoring better. These BB irons will help me accomplish both. Since I don't have a lot of time to practise, using these irons will help me drop my handicap from a 14 to a 10. I say this because they give me an advantage with the 3,4,5 irons. Even the long irons are fun and easy to hit.
