Purchase: I purchased the clubs (4-AW) as a pre-owned set from Edwin Watts online and paid $499. I added the SW new. I want to add the 3-iron. Pros: These irons are easy to strike. The ball flies very straight when hit on almost any part of the club face. They have almost completely eliminated my fade. I often find myself ending up left of target. I like the way they get the ball airborn. I see higher flights out of my 4 and 5 irons. Cons: The only dislike is that the distances seem to be lower. I am having to adjust my thoughts to use the proper club to cover the distance. Something else I am getting used to (but will with time) is that they seem a little heavier. That, and the offset are causing me to have some fat hits. I am already starting to overcome that now as my swing gets more confident and sweeter. The clubs have a FAT appearance when at address. It only took a short time to get over that. Quality: These are very solid looking and feeling clubs. Quality is excellent. Review Summary: I would reccomend these irons to anyone looking to straighten out a fade. Hookers may not like them though. I have had to re-calculate my club choices from 125 yards out due to the apparent reduction in distance. As I start swinging with more confidence, that may change.

Details: 5i thru AW. Stock graphite shaft and grips. No modifications.
Purchase: Prior to purchasing these Callaway clubs, I was using a set from Costco as a starters set. Played with the Costco set for about 5 months. Then Callaway had a demo day at my local range. The Callaway rep asked me a few questions and recommended the Big Bertha 2006 model. I tried it out and was impressed with the difference a club makes. I ended up getting the 5i thru AW to replace my Costco clubs. Paid about $500 for the 7 clubs as a discount for the demo day. Pros: The club looks like a beginners club, with its wide sole and top. But don't let the appearance distract your opinion. At least I didn't. The craftsmanship is top quality, as I wouldn't expect anything less from Callaway. Hitting balls is easy and the cavity back really pops the ball up into the air. The face is really forgiving, and the sweet spot is huge and perfect for beginners. Contact with the ball anywhere on the face will give you a nice ball flight. As a beginner in the days, this was the perfect club for me. Cons: Since this club is made for beginners, working the ball into a fade or draw is not as easy. And the graphite shaft is a bit whippy for speed swingers. But since my swing speed was about 70-80mph when I started, this wasn't an issue at all. Quality: The construction of the Callaway Big Bertha 2006 irons is top notch. Sure it's nice and shiny when you first get it, but it's all about performance. Ok, so I've managed to hit the cement cart path in my early days, but the steel club head can really take a beating. The only remnant the cement cart path left was a few minor scratches on the underside of the head. No big deal at all. Overall, the quality is nothing less than expected from Callaway GOlf. Review Summary: I'd recommend these irons to any beginner with a slower swing speed. These irons will definately help you get the ball up into the air without a lot of effort. Just swing easy and let the cavity back and large sweet spot face do its job. On 2006-07-19, jgentry rated this Callaway Big Bertha 2006 a 5...(7279)
Details: Callaway big bertha 2006 irons with steel uniflex shafts.
Purchase: I bought the 4-AW set off ebay for $450 new. Pros: These irons have a very large sweet spot and hit very consistant distance wise even if you don't make great contact. They get the ball up very easy and very seldom will you chunk a ball. Several people have complained saying they don't provide good distance. They certainly are not blisteringly long, but I hit my 7 about 150-160 which is about average for most golfers. They look very good at setup and all you need is a nice smooth swing to hit it high and straight. Cons: I'm not a big fan of the full offset on these irons. I have a bit of a natural draw, so I tend to hook these irons a little more then I'm used to. If I try to really smoke one I usually hit a snap hook or a screaming hook. The other day I was inbetween 7-6 iron about 165 out, so I tried to hit a hard 7 and ended up about 30 yards left of the green and a good 30 yards past it. Quality: Excellent. Callaway always makes good quality products. Review Summary: Great set of irons that are very easy to hit. I just have to remember to swing smooth and everything turns out good. Details: bought std. set and had custom fitted. + 1/2' uniflex shafts, +2 degree lie angle, golf pride tour velvet midsize grips
Purchase: Golf superstore locally. $430.00 for 4-SW (steel shafts)after trade-in of my 2004 model Wilson Fat Shaft III irons. Also, additional $60 for the Lob wedge I bought. Pros: I payed for them a few days ago after hitting demo 6 iron at the range and also the in-store simulator. They kept them and re-fitted them for me and I picked them up today. I went to the range after work and I now it it high and straight almost everytime. Also, the distance is consistant since they have a large sweetspot. I hit the 5,7,and PW today.
They are an $800 dollar retail set of clubs and I almost bought the clones on the internet but a co-worker talked me out of it. You get what you pay for and these are the most technology I have had in my bag. I got a steal on them; especally with my trade-in, otherwise I couldn't have afforded them. I will know more after my first 18 holes; my tee time is this coming weekend, but I can tell just from the range that they are better!
ALSO, for those of you who are considering the close-out 2004 models (like I was). I struggled with that due to price too, but I hit both and the '06 clubs feel better. They are shaped different on the bottom, and the cavity is larger than the '04's. Callaway improved them, so I suggest these over the '04 irons. Cons: Hard to say I don't like anything but here is the only thing I will have to get used to.
Basically, the farthest hitting clubs I have ever seen are the Wilson Fat Shaft III's (steel). I could hit my 7 iron 170-200 which is insane. My buddy who shoots low 80's has the fusions and he could hit the Wilsons (1/2'+, mid-sized grips, std. lie)way farther too so it wasn't just me. The Big Bertha's knocked distance down substantially but again much more consitant, straight, and high. Wouldn't say a dislike, but I will have to get used to the distance difference. Quality: VERY WELL MADE. Amazing feel in the backswing and perfect weight. Good looks, and I love the stock Callaway grips, but due to custom fitting I had to get mid-sized aftermarkets put on.
Review Summary: If you are a PRO, the Titlelist blades are probabaly best irons you can buy, but anyone else should buy Callaways. The regular Big Berthas like I have are the BEST based on my tests and my online research for mid-high hadicappers like me. Down the road I might get X-18's if my game makes it to the mid-low 80's someday LOL. The main question I hope I answered for you guys is something I couldn't find online. Which are better, the '04 or '06. My mind was made up and I am happy with my purchase. On 2006-07-09, Edwin rated this Callaway Big Bertha 2006 a 5...(7244)
Details: Uniflex Steel Shafts, Regular length and Loft. Set includes 4-PW. Standard Callaway Grips.
Purchase: My wife bought them as a birthday gift at an Edwin Watts retailer in Sunrise, Fl. My short game needed the most improvement of all. I was told by the salesman that they were real easy to hit. We paid $524.99 for 4-PW. Pros: The cavity back design really helps get the ball up in the air from any lie. If they were any easier to hit i'd be on the tour! Ha! Ha! Cons: I like everything about the set except I wish it came with the the 3 Iron. Quality: Callaway has always had a good reputation for quality and these clubs definitely fit that description. Review Summary: The best investment I've made up till now. Improved my game immensely and have more fun on the links. Well worth the cost.
