On 2003-04-22, Mr. Triple Bogey rated this Callaway X-16 Pro Series / Steel Shaft / Regular Flex a 5...(1161)

Purchase: Traded in my old X-14 Steelheads at a local golf shop for the new X-16 Pro Series (Reg. Flex/Steel Shaft). These irons retail for about $699 but I only paid $360 with my trade in. I switched to the pro series because my game was improving and I wanted clubs that were slightly more advanced.
Pros: Overall, the X-16's Pro Series are an excellent set of clubs. They differ from the standard set of X-16's by offering only minimal off-set, smaller club heads, and more shot shaping ability, qualities that a more seasoned golfer can appreciate. The clubs inspire confidence at address and feel great through impact. The most forgiving set of irons i've ever hit...mis-hits are practically invisible. My friends and I found that we were all 10 to 15 yards longer with the pro series than with any of our current iron sets. The corded Callaway grips were also outstanding. The X-16's are much more aesthetically appealing than the X-14's.
Cons: Personally, there is nothing I don't like about these clubs; though a few of my friends (all scratch golfers), say that the X-16's lack feeling...meaning sometimes they can't feel the difference between good shots and bad ones.
Quality: Callaway clubs are of the highest quality. Construction is solid and the finish on the clubs is fantastic. I put my old X-14's through hell and they held up really well and still resold for $400. I'm sure the X-16's will hold up just as well. Callaway clubs have great resale value.

Review Summary: Great set of clubs for the low to mid level handicapper in search of a forgiving, shot making set of irons. Higher handicap players should go for the standard model. I recommend all persons interested to try them out at your local pro shop. Bottom bottom line: are they a DRAMATIC improvement over the X-14's you already own? Not a dramatic improvement but if you don't already play a Callway iron i recommend you try them out.
