Details: 11.5* loft, factory 55 gram shaft.
Purchase: I picked up this driver at a golf swap for $50, which I felt was a good price for a club that sold new for $300. Pros: I like a driver with enough loft to get the ball in the air high enough for good carry distance. This 11.5* head is perfect for that. The added loft also helps to minimize the effect of side spin, which translates into a straighter ball flight. The Hi-bore XL is not too big, not like the new HI-
bore XLS Monster. It's loud at impact, but I like that as it lets me know when I really catch one solid. Good lever of foregineness for a mid level golfer. Cons: I don't care for the light 55 gram shaft in this driver. Just too light and hard to control compared to a good 75 grams shaft. Quality: Quality of the head is excellent. Good quality shaft, just too light for me. Review Summary: This 11.5* driver is an excellent choice for any golfer looking to hit the ball a little higher for more carry distance. The XL has enough foregiveness for any mid handicap golfer. Loud sound will not make everyone happy, but I rather like the sound. Ball flight is long and straight when I do my part. As a bonus, you can work the ball left or right without too much effort, if you have the talent for working the ball. I think the XL is a great buy for the money if you can find one used.

Details: 9.5° Stiff Fujikura CG Gold
Purchase: I went to Golfsmith at the end of the winter to pick up a couple wedges, I ended up hitting all kinds of different clubs. The last clubs I hit were drivers. I had one of the original Big Bertha (190cc) steelhead drivers. I could hit it pretty well, but there was no comparison to the new tech. I ended up narrowing down my choice to the Taylormade r7 and the HiBore XL. I ended up purchasing the XL for $199. They can be purchased for as low as $149 now. Much less than the new XLS for $300, with about the same performance. Pros: I love this club, if their is any problem with a shot it is definetly me and not the club. At first the club seemed huge, but the shape of the head does not distract me like the Sumo2 or FTi. I have a swingspeed close to 120mph measured at the time I purchased the club and can blast the ball 290+ yards down the middle with a nice trajectory. The club is still workable right and left but I dont have the ability to be consistent when attempting these shots. Cons: My only complaint and this is minor is the grip. The stock grip is not bad but there are many that are much better. Feels solid and imparts confidence at address. There isn't a better feeling than cranking one out there long and straight. Quality: Quality is top notch. I expect on par with any other driver on the market. Review Summary: Not being one that must have the latest and greatest, I bought last years model and saved 50%. The big head catches your attention, but was easy for me to get used too. I have hit some of this years drivers but cannot claim they are any or much better. This driver will hit it high, straight and far. On 2008-03-26, DON rated this Cleveland HiBore XL a 5...(8052)
Details: I got a HiBore Xl. 10.5 * stiff flex red factory shaft.
Purchase: I got this driver online at Golfsmith.com for $150, less 10 % off. I've demoed this driver and some others, and the XL was one of my favorites. At the price, I felt it was worth buying. Pros: I like just about everything with this driver. The 10.5* loft is good. The XL is a high launch design, so 10.5* is plenty of loft for a lot of golfers. The Red factory shaft is quite good. The Gold shaft is a higher launch shaft than the red with a little higher torque. Flex for a S is pretty good, and fits my swing very well. The head cover is one of the best I've seen, Easy to remove and put back on, and it protects the shaft very well. I can work the ball with this driver, and that's one of the things I look for in a driver. Cons: Nothing not to like. Quality: Quality and construction is first rate. Review Summary: I got 2 XL drivers, a 9.5* and a 10.5* when I ordered. After hitting both side by side with a playing partner, I decided to keep the 10.5* and sell him the 9.5*. We both hit them about the same distance and the ball flight was very close. He said which ever one I didn't want, he'd buy it. It was hard to pick, and I think I'd have been just as happy with either one. Both drivers are very long, with a nice high ball flight for good carry. Details: I got a non-conforming 10.5* HiBore XL with a stiff flex red factory shaft. Cleveland made a batch of extra hot face 10.5* drivers, and this is one of them. Sold as Pre-ownen without a head cover, but mine came with a cover and both the head and grip were still in the plastic wrapper, Brand New.
Purchase: I found this driver on sale at Golfsmith website for $150, less 10 % plus $5 shipping. I had heard about these non-conforming drivers, and at $135 it was too much to pass up. Pros: I was expecting to receive a used driver, so when a brand new one arrived, I was quite happy with my purchased. The HiBore comes with either the red or yellow 65 gram shaft. Not sure exactly what the difference is, but the red one is supposed to be for the better player, so that's the one I ordered. Couldn't be happier with the driver. Ball flight is right where I want it, high and no signs of ballooning, nice and long. I hit this driver about as long as any I've tried to date. I can work the ball also, which I consider a major plus with a modern big CC driver. Sound is a little loud, but not as loud as some, and nothing worth complaining about Cons: Can't really find anything to complain about this driver. Not the most foregiving driver I've hit, but good enough. Quality: Quality is top of the line. I did pull the shaft after hitting it as it came. I do this with all woods and drivers as I like to spine align the shaft for maximum performance. Since non of the OEM do spine alignment, this is not a negative for this driver, rather all OEM clubs. Review Summary: This is one of the best drivers on the market. The S flex factory shaft is very good, not junk like some OEM shafts can be. Distance and ball flight are as good as any driver you can buy. It looks pretty good at setup, not hugh like some of the other big head drivers. Not too loud, just loud enought to let you know you pounded it out there a long ways. As I mentioned, not as foregiving as some, but it that's what you're looking for, the new XLS would be worth a look. It's bigger and supposed to be more foregiving. If you have a decent swing, the XL should be foregiving enough and plenty long. On 2008-02-11, Billy Baroo rated this Cleveland HiBore XL a 5...(8010)
Details: 10.5 deg, stock gold shaft, stiff flex
Purchase: Bought this driver at local Edwin Watts for $199. Great service from those guys. After I decided, they let me take a demo out on the course for a couple rounds to see how it was in 'real life'. After the 'real' driving range and an actual round I was confident I made the right choice. Two words, BOMBS AWAY! Pros: after trying pretty much every driver...TM 460, TM R5 Dual, Callaway FT-3, Callaway X460, Cobra F Speed, Nike Sasquatch Sumo (both traditional and square and I don't care for the square), Titleist 907 D2 the list goes on. I only wanted to spend $200 as I don't think I needed to spend more and I was right! After all the research I had done for a few months it was time to head into the store and try them out for myself. There was something about the feel of the swing, for me, that just felt great. I hit it the farthest of the lot and the most consistent (least dispersion). Trajectory was about 11-12 deg which for my swing speed of about 106-110 was what I wanted. They couldn't calculate spin with their system so I couldn't say. The reviews say it has low spin but I'm sure it's reasonable as the distance shows me. It can be worked for fades/draws pretty easily as well. I really, really like the driver. I was hitting a TM R5 and loved the way it felt at impact as well as the feeling in the swing, smooth. The XL has a VERY similar feel but is much further by about 20-25 yards thank you very much, Cleveland... Cons: It can be a teeny bit loud for some, yet not as loud as the Nike was. I could care less since I'm the last one to hit my second shot in my group, LOL. Quality: pretty solid construction and quality as I expected. Review Summary: With all the research I have done, internet reviews, magazine tests, etc. Pick a few that suit your swing style and speed and hit them. I definitely recommend trying this in addition to others that may be on your list. I seriously doubt you will be disappointed. Don't be surprised if you buy one. Details: Fujikura Yellow, Stiff shaft - 10.5
Purchase: I was looking at new irons and decieded to take a look at woods as well. I tried the Cleaveland Hibore Xl, TaylorMade Burner, Titlest 905. I found that this drive felt better in my hand, Had more control, and i could hit it farther than the others. Price - 299.99 Carls Golf Pros: Very easy to hit. I personally like the offset face because it helps me be able to move the ball around more ( ie...fade or draw ). I was currently hitting my TM 300 280-300 yards on average. I found that I was hitting this driver at average of 50 yards farther. I know that sounds crazy with a 10HDC, but i would not have gotten this driver if i didn't. Cons: Sound....This driver is very LOUD!!! Made me buy a 3 wood. Quality: Very Good. Have only had it for a week. Review Summary: This driver is great and one of the best that I have used. Everyone that I know that has tried mine have crushed it and some of them have custom build drivers.
