On 2009-04-28, DON rated this Cleveland Launcher 09 a 5...(8345)

Details: 10.5* loft, S flex factory shaft.

Purchase: Demoed this driver at the new Dicks Sporting Goods store. Wanted to see how it compares to my old 460 Comp and HiBore XL drivers.
Pros: Good looking club. Quite at impact, not at all loud like the HiBore XL is. Good distance and easy to hit straight.
Cons: Again, this driver comes with a very light shaft, and I just don't hit a light shaft driver as well as I do a driver with a 75 gram shaft.
Quality: Very good quality club. What I expect from Cleveland Golf.

Review Summary: If you like the old Launcher 460. I think you'll like the new 2009 model just as much. Very nice club. For me, the shaft is way too light. But that's the case with all the new drivers on the market. For some reason, all the OEMs think all golfers need a lighter shaft in a driver to get more swing speed. My testing says it's not true. This is a very good driver, if you like a light shaft. Pretty much what you get with all the new drivers today. For the average golfer, I rate it a 5.

Details: Standard setup

Purchase: Demo-day opportunity to try this club. $299 normal price
Pros: I really liked the look of this club. This has a fuller head design than recent Cleveland drivers. Sort of in the old style drivers. But sets up nicely at address. Like the Monster driver from Cleveland, it seems like the club face does not have a closed club face which can lead to more to-the-right shots. if you're used to a driver with a closed face, be prepared. but for better players, this is a nice club. Distance is comparable to other Cleveland drivers, though I can't say its any more forgiving. It is very light weight and ball flight is medium to high. Sound is loud but most drivers are today.
Cons: Not much. Shots went more right than my current driver but it has a closed face.
Quality: Seemed top notch to me. Felt solid in my hands.

Review Summary: if you have the swing for it, probably a great club. Long and loud, and straight for better players.
