On 2008-03-21, DON rated this Cleveland Launcher 460 Comp a 5...(8044)
Details: 10.5 degree loft. Factory R flex launcher shaft.
Purchase: I got it online from Golfsmith. They had it on sale for $69.93, with a 10 % discount off that. I got it for 2 reasons. I wanted to compare this older club with a new HiBore XL I ordered at the same time. The second reason is for the price it was too much to pass up. Especiall when the Comp was just about the longest driver you could get in 2006 when it was made. This Comp was sold as Pre-owned with no head cover. Pros: Just about everything about this drive is very good. The club was sold as pre-owned, but it looks almost new. The crown and face have no marks on them. and only small scratchs on the sole from hitting balls. Nothing a new club wouldn't pick up in a day or two of use. The head a black, which looks nice. The Comp is a composite head, with a graphite crown. Ball flight was high and long Cons: The only thing I didn't like about the driver was the R flex shaft. I wanted a S flex, but Golfsmith was out of them when I ordered the club, so I had to go with the R flex. For an R flex, it feels pretty stiff, just not stiff enough for my 107 MPH swing. As factory shafts go, It's a real good shaft, and for an R flex, it's on the firm side compared to some others I've tried. Quality: Quality and construction is first rate. No complaints at all Review Summary: This was rated as one of if not the longest driver you could get in 2006. And after hitting this one, I can understand why. the ball flight is high with a good piecing trajectory. If an R flex shaft suits your game, this is a driver worth hitting. Because the shaft was too soft for me, I did change out the R flex for a S flex after trying it with the factory shaft. As far as I can tell, with the new shaft, it's as long and straight as the newer HIBore XL. HIt one drive out to 306 Yards my first round with it in the bag.

The club is a regular flex shaft in a loft of 10.5* Pros: An excellent looking club, black head with a graphite composite crown, and a black shaft. The large head is very easy to get used to, and the sweet spot is LARGE.
The talk about a higher launch angle without ballooning isn't just hype. I do get a higher ball flight than my old 9.5 degree driver, but the flight levels off and goes a long ways. Cons: It was somewhat hard to control. It tends to draw more than I have ever done before. I have never been a player who draws the ball, so this was a surprise to me. I have to aim to the right edge of the fairway, then watch it draw back inward, and sometimes it draws too far and goes off the left side of the fairway.
I think that the regular flex is weaker than most, or it has more torque than most, or a combination of the two. Quality: Superb construction, but they should have put a better shaft in there. Review Summary: I tried to determine what shaft this is based on Fujikura's website. It lists the swing speed range for most of their shafts in regular flex as 80-94 mph. I swing about 90 mph, and have a medium tempo, yet this shaft feels a little whippy and torquey. It actually does give me more distance with the extra kick and the draw bias, but it can be hard to keep off the left side of the fairway. If you want a club that makes you draw the ball more than your current driver, and you swing about 80 to 85 mph, then I would recommend this to you. If you swing over 90 mph, then you are probably in between flexes on this shaft, yet the stiff would be too stiff.
Great sweet spot, great distance, hard to keep from going left.
