On 2002-09-18, Tim rated this Cobra 350 Driver a 5...(573)

Purchase: I had some clubhouse credit accumulated at my proshop and my old driver was misbehaving. I decided to trade in my Ping TiSi 10 degree with a UST 65 shaft. I went to my local golf store in Salt Lake City and tried what they had available to me at the time. Although most golf equipment companies have their top-of-the-line equipment available to lefties, it is not always in stock. On this day the salesman had a pleasant variety to choose from. My choices for the morning in the simulator were the Titleist J, Cleveland Launcher, Ping Tec, Taylormade 360, Callaway VFT, or the shiny King Cobra 350(Hint:winner hands down...). I decided to purchase the King Cobra for $259.00. It has the stock Aldila HM Tour shaft. It was selling for $279.00, but the store matched a price on the net(Dimmock Hill).
Pros: This driver is, by far, the most forgiving I have ever hit. I hit the ball OK, and have managed to keep my three handicap intact. The face is large at 350cc, but at address there isn't the eggplant on a stick look that you get with so many other oversized drivers. The face is deep and the sweetspot is huge. On the sole of the club the company has printed 25cm2. I believe it. Misses with this hot faced club go as far as my old drivers' sweetspot. Solid strikes on the sweetspot get going in a hurry with a medium to high trajectory.
Cons: The accuracy of this club is good, but with a hard swing the shaft doe,mn't perform as well. The UST 65 is better suited to my needs at this time. Average players with a slower tempo will benefit from the Aldila stock shaft, but if you're speed is in the 95-100 range you'll get slightly more control with a premium low torque, high kickpoint shaft.
Quality: The driver sets up well to the eye and looks great. I get compliments on it every round I play. I have no concerns about the thin beta titianium faces' quality over time. King Cobra has been around a long time and they are essentially owned by Acushnet(Titleist).

Review Summary: Overall, the six months I have had this driver have been excellent. It is easily 12-16 yards longer than my Ping, and is much more forgiving. The extra confidence I have on the tee is remarkable and is a huge factor in staying aggressive on the course. At $279.00 this club is a no brainer. Lower handicappers may want to reshaft, but 85% of people who buy this will say, "WOW!!", when they first hit the oh-so-huge sweetspot.
