On 2005-08-17, An avid golfer rated this Cobra 440 SZ a 5...(6060)

Purchase: I bought the club at a local golf shop for 300 dollars.
Pros: The club is very long, but i really dont think it is any longer than my titleist or any other driver out their. That said, because of the slighty closed face, I now have the confidence to go after the ball and rip it, and that is were I think the people who claim of thirty five yard distance changes get their alledged 310 yard bombs. That being so, I got the 9 degree (it launches quite high, my want to go a loft lower depending on driver you currently own)with a stiff YS fifty five gram shaft. The ball seems to carry forever with the perfect ball flight: high, but penetrating enough that I wont lose signifacant distance against a head wind. I have gone from hitting the ball 255 on great hits to 275 on good hits. Because I do not have to worry about fading the ball into the trees were I have to scramble to make bogey, I can turn through and unleash my swing. My straight shots on the Titleist turned it about a 10 yard draw, while my misses are easily managable powerfades (about 10 yards) that don't lose any distance. I am driving the ball better than ever with my new confidence. The club his large but doesn't seem any larger than my 365 cc Titleist. Best of all, the clubhead makes a loud, powerful metallic noise when you hit the ball. It's loud enough that your playing partner will think your crushing it everytime.
Cons: The headcover won't win any beauty contests
Quality: Excellent

Review Summary: GREAT CLUB!!! BUY IT!!!

Purchase: I gave 275.00 at my local pro shop. Not a bad price for a great driver.
Pros: The 440 SZ will make a Pro V1 scream. My swing speed is around 110, so I first tried one with a stiff shaft and pulled nearly every ball I hit with it. I dropped down to a regular flex shaft and began to rip the covers of balls. The slightly closed face helped my slice out tremendously. I have devoleped a slight draw even. This club has helped lower my handicap by four to five strokes pre round. I have found out it really is easier playing from the fairway.
Cons: It comes with one UGLY headcover!
Quality: I have only used the 440 SZ for ten or twelve rounds so it is hard to say about overall quality. I did clip the once off the top of the head, near the toe, and it shows only a faint sky mark. Not even noticeable unless you look very closely.

Review Summary: The pro at the shop let me hit several different drivers and for me the 440 SZ was the answer to my problems. It was a toss up between that and the Ping G2, which is also a wonderful piece of equipment. I went with the Cobra and have not been disappointed. This is everything you need from a driver and more.

Purchase: Golf Mart, $299. They let you demo and switch if the driver is not perfect. I tried the Cleveland Launcher, Nike Ignite but switched to this. It is long, consistent for my swing and the trajectory is perfect.
Pros: The YS-5 55gm shaft is an excellent shaft and the head pounds the ball. I have it at 7.5 degrees, 45 inches long. I tested it on Callaway's launch monitor and after 3 swings they told me to keep that driver as I was launching at 13.5 degrees with 2400 RPM spin rate with a 150 ball speed.
Cons: Cobra wasn't a great name brand until Titleist acquired it. As this driver demonstrates, the quality has vastly improved and this driver's popularity has taken off.
Quality: This driver is very well constructed. I like the YS shaft as it does have a slight whip, more like a firm than stiff. This allows me to feel the clubhead better than other true "stiff shafts" and I release it better than any driver I've ever hit.

Review Summary: Terrific Driver. I used to change drivers every 3-4 months. I've played this for 12 consecutive months. Nough said.

Purchase: I got the driver at Golfsmith in Pasadena, CA. for $299.
Pros: I haven't had a driver in the bag since my Nike Titanium was stolen, and since I'd recently bought Cobra SZ 3 and 5 woods, I was using the 3 as my driver, with average drives between 240 and 260yrds. I was saving my money for the R7 Quad, but after living with the Cobra fairway woods for awhile, I was so impressed I decided to get the 440 SZ. I took it to the range, and my very first connection went about 285, and I kid you not, the sound of impact made my ears ring! Everyone at the range looked up to see me watching my ball disappear with a goofy grin on my face! The head is big and stable, and has a huge sweet spot. Once I figured out where to put the ball in my stance to get the face square at impact, I was consistently hitting the ball high, straight, and loooong. The next day on the course was the most fun I've had golfing, well, ever! Booming drives really shorten the course!
Cons: Even though the face has a 9 degree loft, I always seem hit the ball really high. I expected a slightly lower trajectory. Other posts mention that a different shaft would remedy that.
Quality: This club appears to be made very well, and I find it to be a very attractive looking piece of hardware. The head cover is ok with me, since I also have the 3 and 5 in the bag.

Review Summary: I have a 100 mph swing with a driver, according to the fitters at Golfsmith. This club allows me to get the most out of that swing speed, and from what I've heard, it gives those with a slower swing speed an even greater advantage, due to the high COR of the face. Because of the stability and large sweet spot, I'd recommend this club to anyone who is looking to straighten out their drives and increase their distance 20-30 yards off the tee.

Purchase: I had been playing the Ping Si3 driver with the Grafalloy Blue shaft, which was good (about 15 yards over my previous driver, an Adams Tight Lies ST). I went to a demo day (always hard on the wallet) and tried the Cobra 440 sz and liked it very much - I knew I was hitting it longer and straighter. I was torn between this club and the MacGregor Eye-O-Matic M-42 driver with the Aldila NV shaft which I also liked. However, I went with this one instead.
Pros: Drives with the Ping Si3 tended to result in a power fade. The Cobra produces a very consistent draw that finds the fairway most of the time. What's more, I am consistently 15-20 yards farther with the Cobra (probably the difference between a draw and a fade). The stock shaft (Graphite Design YS 5.1) is great. You need to know that this club with this shaft tends to launch the ball higher than most. I went from a 10* Ping to a 9* Cobra, and the launch is still higher (may be due to the difference in shafts).
Cons: Nothing. The Headcover is a bit odd looking, but not as bad as some others indicate.
Quality: Generally solid. I did nick the toe of the club by accidentally hitting one of the irons in the bag. Otherwise fine.

Review Summary: Super club.

Purchase: Last year I had the opportunity to play a round with Cobra's 427 SS driver and was amazed at the distance and accuracy of my shots. Unfortunately, at the time I didn't have enough cash to drop down on such a piece of artillery. By the time I was able to save enough, Cobra had discontinued the 427 and I couldn't find one that wasn't used/abused. I told myself that I wouldn't let this happen to me again, and that the next time I found this or any other driver that performed as well, I'd just buy it. This week I tried and purchased the Cobra 440SZ. After trying clubs by almost every other manufacturer (thanks Tourline golf in Fort Worth) I decided that I must have the new Cobra.
Pros: After the first shot off the tee this morning at the driving range, I knew I had made the right decision. There is an old oak tree at the 250 yard mark that I like to aim at on my local range. Occasionally I hit it with my old driver, after a substantial roll. The tree has a wide trunk which splits off at about 20 feet into two major branches like a small goalpost. I not only drove the tree, I split the uprights! I tried again ten more times and either repeated the shot, or came really close. Distance is unknown as I ran out of range! Most of my shots were stopped by the fence at the end of the property. I guess I'll just have to find a longer driving range!
Cons: There is nothing that I don't like about this club.
Quality: Cobra has been making quality clubs for years and have produced the ultimate weapon with the 440SZ. The club is not only asthetically pleasing, but also an amazing testament to quality engineering.

Review Summary: The bottom line is simple. You can't afford not to have this club in your bag! I am by no means a long-ball hitter, or even a good golfer for that matter, but this club has given me confidence as well as a sense of invincibility off the tee box. Many stores sell this club for $299+. The retailers purchase it from their wholesale distributors for about $250. With a little creative haggling you should be able to get pretty close to the wholesale price. I purchased mine for $260 with the headcover at a small local shop. Good Luck!

Purchase: I bought a Titleist 983E w/ a Y6 shaft. I could not keep it from going low and left. The only way I could get it airborn was with a outside-in cut swing. The pro at the range had me try a demo SZ 440 10.5 degree w/ a Y5.1 (stiff / mid kick) shaft after checking my swing speed which was 105-111. I fell in love with it. was booming shots with 240 - 260 yards of carry. Could work the ball with it too. The Titleist Y6 shaft was a little too stiff for me. I ran out the next day an bought it for $299 at Golfdom.
Pros: Easy too hit. I can work the ball by loosening or tightening my grip. It is huge and builds confidence right away after booming a couple of bombs.
Cons: Head cover is UGLY
Quality: Solid. Sounds like a cannon

Review Summary: Great driver! I felt like Happy Gilmour hitting drives that landed at or past the 250 sign and rolled to the end of the range. I can only imagine what a ProV1 will do.

Purchase: I've been struggling with the fairly new Big Bertha II driver. Ever tee shot was an adventure in keeping the ball from fading OB. I'm a 9 HC with above average control of my 3 and 5 wood so I reasoned that my struggle had to be due to the unforgiveness of the Bertha II driver. After a terrible day of golf that was mostly due to my inabilitiy to hit fairways I ran down to Golfsmith and traded in my BBII for the new King Cobra 9 degree 440SZ driver. After a quick grip change I took it for a spin at the local driving range and as I suspected... my worries were over. I am so glad that I listed to the sales rep in Golfsmith. He was very high on the 440SZ stating that it was the best driver on the market at present - bar none!
Pros: I am hitting high drives with the 440SZ that draw ever so slightly. It's simply amazing to go from a complete struggle to keep my drivers from fading ob to a slight draw with no swing changes. The club is very attractive and well made. The deep club face promos confidences and when extra yards are needed I simply tee it up a little higher and let her rip. What a great club for virtually any handicap. I am not sure of the type of staff used in the club but so far it has performed flawlessly.
Cons: I absolutely love everthing about the driver. Well almost everthing! I hate the headcover that comes with it.
Quality: The club is put together as good as any club I have ever seen. The paint finish is perfect and the components appear to be grade A.

Review Summary: Run down to the nearest golf shop that allows you to demo clubs and swing the 440SZ. It will do the rest.
