On 2007-03-25, MN Golfer rated this Cobra SZ a 5...(7697)
Details: 16.5 degree Strong 4 wood, stock Aldila/Cobra 60 gram stiff flex graphite shaft.
Purchase: I bought this club used from Global Golf.com and paid $49.99 for it. I needed a wood I could hit from the fairway for some distance and with enough loft to not worry about getting the ball in the air. The relatively tall face helps with confidence off the tee also.
Pros: I am basically sold on Cobra woods (I use an X-Speed driver already and an SZ 400 before that) and that made it a pretty easy choice here for brand. I could have gotten a 15 degree 3 wood, but I only carry 2 fairway woods and my other is a 21 degree V steel, so the 16.5 degree just made more sense for me. This club is very hot. It takes off climbing fast and holds it's height well while it heads down the fairway. I haven't lost much distance either. My decent hits go about 240 and the sound is pretty unique too, it's almost like a metal-on-metal sound, but not really like a softball bat. It's a very satisfying sound.
Cons: For a stiff flex, it almost feels a bit whippy. I guess that could be the lighter shaft, but I had a regular flex version of the same shaft in my last driver and I don't remember that feeling. I guess it could be improvements in my swing speed, not sure entirely.
Quality: It seems solid. This is a used unit but the face seems to have held up pretty well. The sole shows some wear.
Review Summary: I would highly recommend Cobra woods. I've had very good results. I look forward to long par 5's now, these are a lot of fun to hit.
