On 2004-09-12, Mark Herron rated this Cobra SSi Irons a 4...(4349)

Purchase: I bought them at my local golf store - Pro Golf Discount. I had lost one of my Tommy Armour 845 Silverscots and the shaft on another had broken. I have been playing for about 5 years and have been gradually improving. I was looking to upgrade so I demoed several sets of irons including Cleveland and Tommy Armour sets. I liked the cobras the best and purchased them for $450.
Pros: I hit these clubs about 1 club further than my 845s. I like the ball flight that they provide. They are also very forgiving. Fairly workable in both directions. They are definitely a step up from the 845s and are quality clubs.
Cons: The grips wear fairly quickly. A few of them have worn out after one season of play (I play 5 or 6 times a week on average. The shaft on my six iron also snapped in half from regular play but I think it had been previously weakened somehow before. They do have a little more offset than I like.
Quality: The clubs are solid and sturdy. Has a quality look. Were voted one of the top irons of the year by golf digest. As stated earlier the grips wear a little too easy but overall these are quality clubs.

Review Summary: Cobra makes excellent clubs especially for the price. Compared to other name brand clubs when you weigh quality, performance, and price, I think these will match any irons on the market.

Purchase: I purchased the Cobra SSI irons through Maple Hill Golf Course in Granville, Michigan in February of 2003. I paid $420 with tax for the set, which is about $160 under retail. A great buy!
Pros: I like the way the clubs set and line up. They give you a feeling of confidence. I like the way they feel. They have a cavity back/muscle back combined designed and when you hit them, especially on center, the feeling is very sweet. They also have done an excellent job matching the clubs to the shafts. They can be very long when you want them to be and very straight as well.
Cons: They put a shiny outer ring on the outside of the club, which immediately shows scratches. I wish they had just used a brushed non glossy finish. It would give it a more professional look.
Quality: Other than what I mentioned above, the construction and quality if very high and consistent.

Review Summary: I had spent several hours last summer trying out different clubs, hitting several hundred balls, trying to find what was better. I narrowed down my selection to Cleveland TA5, Titelist, Wilson, Ping I3 and the Cobra SS. It finally came down to the Pings and the Cobra SS. I felt the Cobra was a little longer and liked the feel just a little more. Even though I could have bought the Pings if I wanted to, I decided upon the Cobras.
