On 2005-03-26, Joe Swinger rated this Cubic Balance Easy Air Fairway Driver 13* a 2...(5262)

Purchase: I purchased this club used for twenty dollars at a store called 2nd Swing. The store sells some new equipment, but it specializes in used equipment, buying/selling and trading.
Pros: The club is a low profile titanium head. It is longer from heel to toe than most three woods, and the face height is probably in line with most three woods nowadays, but it appears low profile because the head is a bit larger. That's probably why it is called a fairway driver. It has a runner on the sole to help it have less contact with the turf on shots hit from the fairway.
Cons: Despite being called Easy Air, it isn't that easy to hit off the deck. This is probably due to the 13* of loft. The ball flight is too low. I thought that with a name like that and the low profile and the sole runner adding weight down low, that it would be easier to hit from the fairway. It is easy to hit from a tee. It is called a fairway driver, but I think only the driver part of that applies. I swing about 95mph and I still don't get much height with it.
Quality: Mediocre. Admittedly the club wasn't new when I bought it, but after a while it developed a rattle inside the head. I had it repaired for a nominal fee, and I was told that there was an opening at the bottom of the hosel. The piece of metal that was supposed to be welded over that opening had broken loose and was causing the rattle. The repairman sprayed some flytrap like glue into the head, then put an insert into the hosel to cover the hole so that no debris would get in there again to cause a rattle.

Review Summary: The club is called the Cubic Balance EASY AIR FAIRWAY DRIVER. At 13* of loft, it isn't easy to get it up in the air when hitting off the fairway. It is OK as a club to hit off the tee on holes that have tight fairways where you still want good distance with more control, but I think you would be better served just using a higher lofted fairway wood, perhaps 15*, as your regular three wood, unless you can swing really hard and get this thing to hit the ball higher when hitting from the fairway.
