On 2005-03-28, Mack Payson rated this Diamond Tour Tour Equilizer Irons a 5...(5270)

Purchase: I wanted to upgrade my irons from the set that came with my beginner's full-set which I gave myself for Christmas. Diamond Tour Golf had a holiday special running into January that I took advantage of just before it expired. The Tour+Equilizer irons are a clone of the Nike Slingshot irons and I was able to customize them w/Harrison Steel Lite shafts and Golf Pride Tour Wrap grips for only $111 including shipping.
Pros: Not only did I get a fabulous deal on these irons but they are unquestionably better than I could have imagined. I immediately gained 10-15 yds with them and have very little trouble hitting the long irons. The 4-iron isn't afraid to come out of the bag! Forgiveness was primarily what I was after as I've been playing only six months and the Tour+Equilizers have not disappointed me in any way. The wide soles offer me all the forgiveness I need without sacrificing distance. I was considering investing in a set of hybrid irons but I'm going to put that on hold because I believe that the Tour+Equilizers will deliver just as well if not better as I improve. A reviewer elsewhere of the Slingshots suggested that he couldn't tell if he hit the ball squarely or not. With the Tour+Equilizers I find the opposite to be true as a hit at the sweet spot makes a uniquely satisfying sound similar to that of a steel driver. It took a little getting used to but when I hear that sound now I KNOW I'll be satisfied with that shot. Even when I toe it, however, the shots are generally straight and long. They're almost difficult to mis-hit!
Cons: Not. One. Thing.
Quality: The clubs are in my opinion perfectly built. Each grip is aligned identically on its shaft so I can assume a proper grip easily no matter which club I choose. I hit with them three times a week and the faces show only marginal wear, no more than I would expect. The satin finish on the heads is maintaining is luster beautifully with no indication at all of substandard quality. I intend to keep these in my bag for a long time.

Review Summary: I could not be more pleased with my Tour+Equilizer irons than I am. Diamond Tour Golf did a superb job of addressing and answering my questions (Thanks, Ken!) and building them. The clubs were packaged securely and shipped promptly. I have since ordered more clubs from them and will be reviewing them for GGR soon. The Tour+Equilizer irons is a set I recommend highly for any golfer.
