On 2003-11-13, John Chavanne Southern California rated this Dunlop Goliath 450 CC Driver a 5...(2543)

Purchase: Purchased at a local Walmart along with some Dunlop Flame fairway woods. Read reports on the Dunlop LoCo in Golf Gear Review and after trying to locate one without success, purchase the 450CC Goliath which seemed to have similar size and characteristics. The 'Flames' were only $39.62----the Goliath was more expensive---$39.84 (including head cover)!!!! I figured at this price I could not go wrong.
Pros: Have hit a bunch of balls at the driving range and played one round. Currently using a Taylor Made 580 in 12 degree loft. The Goliath for me hits the ball at least as far and with a little more accuracy. The head is so large it feels almost impossible to miss the ball and if I did, the breeze would probably make it take off!
Cons: Nothing so far---but it sure is big!
Quality: Seems to be very well made--Have not looked carefully to see where the Goliath is made, but have noted the R580 head and shaft come from China. The 580 retailed for $399--I got it as a demo for $269. I sure have a problem seeing the 580 as being worth 6.7 times what I paid for the Dunlop!!!!

Review Summary: As of now I have the Goliath driver (10 degree) and Dunlop Flames in 3,5,7 and 9 lofts in my bag. They are doing the job as well as or better than any of the more expensive clubs that I have tried. Over the past year or so in retirement I have pulled out some of my old (really old) clubs including an old Dunlop steel 7 wood that seemed to do very well for me compared to my other clubs. Lesson learned-- High price does not make a better club!!
