On 2006-10-28, Realgun rated this Dynacraft Avatar Stainless a 5...(7493)

Details: This is a head only wedge. It comes in either Right or left handed. The three wedges I purchased were 52 56 and 60 degrees. I mated them to an FST lightweight steel shaft of 100 grams. I anso used a double gold banded ferule and Tacki-Mac grips.

Purchase: I purchased the heads from Hireko golf for $6.50 per head. Shafts came from Diamond tour for 6.50 per shaft and grips were also from Diamond tour for 2.50 per grip. I figured why pay 50-100 per club if I am just hacking. I am left handed so my choices were limited. 'The Avatar Series wedges feature a 4-way camber sole to hit from a variety of lies. Pre-worn heel is incorporated in the design to allow the face to open up for delicate 'flop shots' and 'bump and run' shots around the green. These wedges have USGA conforming square grooves on the face and are cast from soft carbon steel for the ultimate in feel. The unplated finish allows the head to rust for increased surface roughness.'
Pros: The heads look gorgeous to me. They are lightly satin finished. They are marked in their bounce and degree of loft right on the head. The hostel was already bored and tapered for my and I just had to light touch up hole to install the shaft. The head is very easy to swing and the weight is good for soft or harder sand. The club being pre-worn works well when you open up the head for a delofted shot.
Cons: The head being fairly soft will scratch up a bit. This actually will help grip the ball better. The bottom looks as good as when I got it. I guess I just like a non rusted face.
Quality: The quality is superb as I built it myself. Actually I have built a lot of other equipment sucxh as fly rods and casting rods. The shafts and heads swing a lot better than the Wilson AD pitching wedge I have. That PW has a graphite shaft.

Review Summary: Bottom line is its a nice head that swings well and is very workable. The lefty I had use it for comparison said it was very nice and wanted to know where he could get one. I just wish i could hit the ball as acuretly as he did.
