On 2005-09-14, Craig Chappen rated this Element 21 Eagle One irons a 5...(6188)
Purchase: I got my Element 21 irons from the 800 number on the Element 21 web site. After investigating the company's product I decide to buy a set of the irons. The shafts are made from a newly developed metal alloy. This alloy contains the element Scandium. The robotic testing comparision between the E21 scandium alloy shaft and other brands of iron shafts is impressive. Element 21 is also claiming they are the best feeling irons on the market now. Longer in distance by 10% and 15% tighter dispersion than the closest competitor. Plus they claim a huge decrease in the amount of vibration up through the hands, arms and shoulders during impact. It is called their Shock Block technology. I paid $850 for the 3 through PW.
Pros: I bought the stiff-regular shaft irons. I was told by Element 21 the stiff shafts are a little stiffer than steel alloy shafts. My shafts are black. It only took me a few balls on the range to know what Element 21 Golf is touting is the truth. There is hardly any vibration in the arms during impact. Especially on miss hits. Just on this fact a great choice of shaft for the person with any hand, arm or shoulder problems who still loves to play golf. The ball trajectory is great for me. The feel is smooth. On sweet spot hits I hardly feel the ball at impact. The heads are a little heavier. They are similar looking to PING cavity back iron heads. I like the heads a little heavier though. I like being able to feel where the club head is at in my back swing. I do hit the ball farther and straighter with these irons. And I get good ball spin on the greens. I compared my Element 21 irons to my old sets of irons (Titliest and Tommy Armour 845s) in a wall golf simulator. I have about a 9 yard gain in yardage and the dispersion pattern of the balls is tighter. I did this comparision over many ball hits. Not just a few. Was just again verifying for myself what Element 21 touts is true.
Cons: Element 21s first model of irons is the cavity back heads. I would prefer more of a blade-cavity hybrid style. Which they are suppose to be coming out here with shortly. Other than that, I do not have any other negatives.
Quality: The irion heads are very durable. I have hit tons of range balls and I play golf several times a week. I have had the irons since February and when cleaned up the heads still look new. The grips are Wynn grips. They have held up very well. Show only a little wear. I have not had any heads fly off or shafts break.
Review Summary: Having played golf since about 10 years old I can say that the Element 21 Scandium alloy shafts are the best feeling shafts I have ever felt. I have friends try them and they all remark right away how different they feel during swing and impact. And how little vibration there is at impact. Element 21 Golf will be introducing their specialty wedges, new irons and driver shortly. Most likely some time in October. If the driver is anything like the irons I will be a very happy camper.
