On 2008-05-26, L. M. Nichols rated this Golden Bear Hot Ring Hybrid a 5...(8090)

Details: Purchased 3, 4 and 5 hybrid iron/woods all at once. Supplied with a regular flex, dark grey, graphite shaft and Golden Bear standard grips.

Purchase: Purchased at Martin's PGA Superstore in N. Myrtle Beach, SC. Wanted to try out the hybrid concept and the square head design of these clubs. Paid $40 per club.
Pros: I wanted to invest less money in 'test driving' hybrid technology and decide if I wanted to move up to a higher-performing, more expensive club if I really took a liking to the concept. These clubs also offered the high MOI, square head style that touts greater accuracy in the event of off-center hits. Clubs have a nice feel overall, good balance, and a comfortable look at address. Best of all, they produced accurate shots with excellent distance, especially when compared to the 3, 4 and 5 irons I removed from my bag.
Cons: I'll probably replace the grips with the my favorite tour wraps. Given the price, I'm not sure what kind of durability I'll see out of the club heads themselves, but they appear to be of good quality.
Quality: Overall, these clubs look and feel as nice as any $150 'name' hybrid. Longevity will really tell me more about their durability. While using these clubs for the first time, I shared a cart with a scratch golfer who could play his 'old school' blades like a pro. He was impressed with the quality of the clubs and thought they had very good balance.

Review Summary: These clubs are an excellent, affordable alternative to buying into pricey, name-brand hybrids. They perform very well, have a nice feel at contact, and offer high MOI should you tend to strike the ball off-center. I'll keep these clubs in my bag for the foreseeable future.
