On 2003-09-02, Eric S. Harris rated this Golf Gear Tsunami 360cc Driver a 5...(2224)
Purchase: I was golfing last week. One of my friends that could not play with us had purchased the Tsunami 360cc driver after reading the great reviews. I have had to revert to using my 3 wood off the tee as up to this point I have not found a driver that I was comfortable with or that would go any further than my 3 wood, approximately 235 off the tee. He smiled and told me to try it. I ignored it until the 17th hole which was a slightly downhill 430 yard par 4. It was quite narrow and sloped from right to left. I remembered I had the club in the bag and decided to try it. I took an easy swing, the ball jumped off the face, went straight which was different from my usual tendency to fade, and ended up 140 yards from the green, about 280 to 290 yards. I was of course excited but decided it might be a fluke and tried it on the 18th which was flat. The fairway was very wet and the drive plugged. However it plugged at 265 yards and I was hooked. I called the facility in California and ordered it shipped overnight so I could play the weekend with it. The cost was $299 plus tax. I've never paid over $150 for any club so you can see how impressed I was with the Tsunami. On that Sunday I played terrible, it seems I kept driving through the fairways and had to keep appologizing to people for hitting it to long. I had my first legitimate 300 yard drive and the club has a very forgiving sweet spot. It was worth every cent I paid.
Pros: I have the 360cc driver, regular flex, with 10 degree face.
What I like is
1. It is very forgiving unless you try to swing to hard.
2. The sweet spot is huge and one I hit off the toe went close to 200 yards with a minimal slice.
3. It's light. It feels good in your hands.
4. The distance. The obvious thing all amateurs are looking for. A real drive over 250 is achievable for the hacker. Most people talk a good game but have you ever really looked at your distance. Most bogey golfers are probably in the 210 to 240 range. This is a legitimate 260 to 280 yard driver for the weekend golfer, I know I'm one of them. I can shoot anything from 82 to 100 on given days, this will help level the playing field until I improve my short game to match.
Cons: I'm sure most people will have a hard time finding something wrong with this club. My suggestion would be to make sure you have the right flex shaft for your swing speed and age and the club will do the rest.
Quality: The quality seems well constructed but I've only had it a short time and in all fairness I will have to comment on this in a year after I've used it more.
Review Summary: I've searched for a long time and this is the first driver I've been really impressed with. There may be others out there as good but I haven't seen them yet. It truly is one time when I can say you get what you pay for.
