On 2005-09-22, MDE rated this Hammy 38.5 Inch Split Grip Putter a 5...(6225)

Purchase: Purchased putter off Ebay for $150.
Pros: I like the open stance this putter requires. It promotes a better view of the cup. I also like how the split grip allows my bottom hand to be closer to the ball. It also has a nice "click" sensation when you roll one off the sweetspot.
Cons: Instead of having two separate grips that exposes part of the shaft, I would prefer one long grip. The all white cover is going to look pretty grungy, pretty quick. This putter also rolls a straighter ball for me, meaning that it doesn't break quite as much.
Quality: No problem with quality.

Review Summary: If it's good enough for Natalie Gulbis, it's good enough for me. I saw her playing in the Solheim Cup and was intrigued with her putting style. After doing a little research I found that she ranks near the top of LPGA in most putting categories, and actually leads the tour this year in birdies. The Hammy is a 38.5 inch putter with a split grip. You place the left hand near the top of the grip (for righties), and the right hand about 8-10 inches below. The feel is very similar to using a hockey stick. You then point your right toe at the ball, and open up your stance with the left. It looks and feels a little bit funny, but so far I am very happy with the results. After playing 6 rounds with Hammy, I'm averaging 31.4 putts per round and so far have had no 3-putts. This is dramatic improvement for me. I still miss too many 3-6 footers, but by having my right hand down closer to the ball my distance control has been fantastic. I have struggled on the greens my whole life, I don't know if the Hammy is going to be the final answer, but I can say that nothing I've tried before has worked as well.
