On 2002-10-02, Chris Bereznay rated this Harvey Penick Little Red Book a 4...(642)

Purchase: I paid $10 at a local Barnes and Noble booksellers store for this book. It was suggested by a friend who had worked in a pro shop and recalled when the book first came out that it sold out immediately and was hard to keep in stock. He commented that it was one of the best books on golf he's ever read.
Pros: The best thing about this book is that it is made up of very short little sections that are easy to read and don't require a lot of time to pick up a few tips and put the book down. You can easily read one section in just a few minutes and pick up some expert food for thought. Harvey Penick also has a great way of getting the message across - usually through a little short story of sorts. The sections are all very entertaining and deal with just about every aspect of the golf game.
Cons: There is nothing that I have found to dislike about this book. If I were to be overly critical I might say the lack of illustrations could cause it to lose a few points, but the words are so well written, it really doesn't require pictures anyway.
Quality: Soft cover, well bound, loaded with information. It's an inexpensive, yet high quality book. I will make a similar comment to my review on Ben Hogan's Five Lessons book: I wish this were in hardback!

Review Summary: Best $10 I ever spent on a golf book. There's more information in this little gem than several Golf Digest magazines so in effect it's a very high quality read. It's also small enough to keep in my golf bag along with my Hogan book so I'll have some expert tips at my disposal even during a round.
