On 2005-07-08, MDE rated this Heavy Putter B3 Milled Putter a 5...(5827)

Purchase: I bought this unit for $229 from Golf Galaxy. I traded in an Odyssey White Hot Steel so I didn't have to pay full price.
Pros: Solid would be a bit of an understatement, given the putter head alone is 475 grams. I do like the way the extra weight promotes a more shoulder pendulum stroke.
Cons: For something with this much bulk, the face of the putter seems to be a bit squishy. The sweetspot is less than generous. No criticism intended, but the adjustment factor for this putter is dramatically different than what I've gone through on prevous switches; not at all disimilar to adjusting from a standard type driver head to the 460s. Do not think you will be able to take this baby on to the course and just begin stroking without adjusting your motion. It's also worth adding that for those of you who carry your bag, you will feel the difference.
Quality: No problems in this area. Very solid.

Review Summary: Putting has been my downfall for some time. I'm not sure if the Heavy Putter is the answer, but I'm encouraged by the fact that it may be. My problem has been using too much finger and wrist in my putting stroke. The Heavy Putter does a very effective job in promoting more shoulders, thus creating a more ideal pendulum type stroke. Thus far this putter has helped me be much more effective from 10 ft and in. Most particulary on those 3-5 ft round maker/breaker type putts. Given its girth, the ball will roll where you send it. If you're good at reading greens, but have a hard time putting the ball on line, this should be a big help. For whatever reason, it seems a little harder to get the distance right on putts 30 ft or longer. I'm getting better, but the near sledgehammer impact on the ball takes a bit getting use to. Thus far I've played five rounds with the HP. Two of the rounds have been my lowest of the year, one in which I made 6 birdies. Last night in league I one-putted four of nine greens, which is way above average for me, but also three-putted twice, which is also more than usual. My fairest analysis of the HP at this point would be to say that I'm encouraged by the results, and cautiously optimistic that I will continue to improve as I grow more accustomed to his club.
