On 2005-03-17, Steve Reade rated this Innovex Irons a 5...(5212)
Purchase: I bought these directly from Innovex and paid $399
Pros: I was looking to replace some graphite shafted irons that I had had custom-made. A club fitter friend advised me that improvements to my swing were being hampered by the clubs. He advised a heavier shaft, +2 degree lie angle (more vertical) and a 1" longer shaft, which was long to begin with (I'm 6'2" 240lb.s).
I looked at many reviews and wound-up on the Innovex web site where I filled-out their self-fitting questionaire. Kevin Downey called me back the next day and spent at least an hour talking to me about MY swing and how best to make the clubs. I got a fully custom-fitted set of irons at a ridiculously low price (he sells direct because the retailer market is swamped with the Name Brands).
In addition, I was intrigued with the concept of clubs ranging from lob wedge to 4 iron that had overlapping distances; that is, there were NO gaps in coverage -- no 'tweeners that I had to hit 3/4 shots or 110% shots to reach.
And ... that's how it works on the practice range (we still have snow on the ground), but they perform and feel beautiful. I might add that Kevin (he's my best buddy now -- it's great having a friend in the business and we talk frequently) put on premium Lambkin cord grips and the step-less steel shafts (heavier to slow my swing for added power -- golf truly is a game of opposites) look 'way cool. I get eye-balled all the time. These irons are a terrific value and Kevin's the greatest.

Cons: Hey...what's not to love? These are the best clubs I've ever swung. I started with Square Two five years ago, went to fitted Pings about three years ago, replaced them with custom-made graphite-shafted forged irons last year, and now the Innovex irons.
My swing has gone from 80mph to 125+mph and hit my driver (Titleist 983 10.5 heavy shaft) near 300 yds consistently. My handicap went from 20 five years ago to less than 10 now (it lapsed last summer when I overhauled my swing and learned the Mike Austin swing).
These clubs are consistent, consistent, consistent with good feedback on mis-hits like I got with my forged clubs...how long you hit them is up to you. I hit my P about 125 yds., my 9 140, my 5 180, my 4 200+.
Quality: See above for details, however, they are about as well made as any iron I've seen. Premium materials, grips, shafts (you have many options and Kevin gives great advice). He is also willing to exchange/replace clubs that don't feel right (if you need to shorten/lengthen or use a different shaft) at no charge. The club heads look appealing and rugged; the step-less steel shaft looks very clean and slick and is a real eye-catcher.
Review Summary: Innovex offers a remarkable concept (no gaps in iron distance coverage), a fully custom-fitted club that looks great, is made from the best materials, and is backed by a man who genuinely knows golf and really wants his customers to play well and enjoy his clubs.
