On 2002-11-26, Tom rated this Integra VS 88 a 4...(834)

Purchase: Purchase irons from diamondtour.com on special for $4.95 per head in a 3-PW, SW set. Shafts are Dynalight by True Temper purchased from Golfworks.com at $6 per shaft. Grips are Lamkin Tour Wrap also purchased from Golfworks.com at $2 per grip. Assembled clubs myself.
Pros: Selected this combination to help with distance and height problems. The combination of the wide, heavy sole and deep cavity back and the low bend point shaft creates an iron trajectory that is ideally suited for the beginner/high handicap golfer. I have experimented with cavity back (Dynacraft DFS) and low COG (Pinseeker) irons but not with the success of the VS88 irons. Shots are considerably higher and add about 10 yards per club due to increased height. Most high handicap golfers don't realize how much a higher trajectory can help with distance. Clubs do end up with a high swingweight (D4 at 1/2" over standard)
Cons: Club loft is slighly stronger than "standard" so distance versus club can be deceiving. Still better than average distance (10 yards per club). Difficult to work ball. Draw is much easier than fade due to offset. Would not recommend graphite shaft due to sole weighting. Suspect that this might cause shaft to break at hosel.
Quality: Quality was good. Had to bore out hosel on one club to get shaft to fit. (6 iron).

Review Summary: A good set to assemble or purchase for a mid to high handicap golfer. Best to either learn a lot about shafts or go to a custom fitter.
