On 2004-04-12, dcinsantiy rated this KZG Gemini 395cc 10.5* a 5...(3343)
Purchase: Online purchase thru PureImpactGolf, for $387
Pros: I chose a 395cc 10.5* Gemini head to be mated with a 45' Penley ETA-75 S.flex shaft. Swingweight D5.
This club hits straight. I read abt the hype and everybody says it hits straight so i went 'what the heck' and like all equipment junkies, i went out and ordered myself one.
i can't possibly emphasize how straight this club hits. on my first round (without practice), i whacked all but 2 drives straight down the line with some pushes and some pulls but that's a swing problem more than the club. Even on mishits, the ball went straight, with only marginal loss of distance.
On two drives, i hit what would traditionally have been one massive slice and one giant hook. it turned into an exaggerated fade and larger draw. dirctionally it was a mess but that's me more than the club.
with a swing speed of 105-110mph, my balls went an avg of 250m (275 yards). the longest drive was 270m (or abt 295 yards) with virtually no roll (soft fairways).
the shaft is excellent, with a pronounced kick at impact. i've always loved the ETAs that penley makes, and now have 3 drivers fitted with ETA variants - (1) Maruman V-Sonic 10* with a 45.5' ETA-55 s-flex; (2) 9* Titleist 975D with 46' ETA Tour.S; (3) 9* Zevo Compressor with 45' ETA Tour.S; (4) 10.5* KZG Gemini with 45' ETA-75 s-flex.
i tried using the tour.X previously (on the Zevo) but i think that was too much for me -- anyways, i broke that shaft (twice on bad hits on the hosel).
Cons: its not the most aesthetically brilliant head in the world, altho the shaft combo makes it look a lot sharper. the face is also extremely hard, or at least gives me that impression. the build quality and construction is excellent, but the head, with its matt finish and the blue-red combo print is (i'm sorry to say) not too eye pleasing.
but hey, it goes straight as a bullet.
distances are a little off from my other drivers. the zevo, with ETA Tour (as opposed to the ETA-75 on the Gemini) at the same length, is abt 10-20 yards longer.
the Maruman is gets me abt the same distance on a vastly softer shaft (4.0 torque as opposed to the 2.5 on the ETA and ETA-75).
i'd say the gemini is abt the same distance as my 12* bang mellow with a 45' true temper bimatrix rxi s-flex. the difference is the Gemini is almost always straight, whilst the mellow yellow can hook or slice quite badly, or will lose significant distance on mishits.
this club also loses significant distance on my 9* bang-o-matic with a 46'accuflex prototype (vs339) 2.7 torque s-flex. i'd say at least 20-30 yards on each drive.
but again, it is way more accurate. and that saves me penalty strokes on OBs and that's the reason why i bought this club.
Quality: the face looks really fierce. solid and hard looking. sounds hard also. my clubfitter, ken lopez of pureimpactgolf, says this is one hard head. it looks really solid, and more solid (impression here is hard, well built, like a tank) than all of my other clubs.
Review Summary: straight, straight and if you have doubts, it's straighter than you can imagine. try slicing / hooking this club intentionally and you'll understand why i'm saying its the STRAIGHTEST club you will ever see.
I'm so happy kzg got the usga to back off and deem this club conforming.
