On 2005-04-27, Merf in SF rated this KZG CH-II 4-wood a 4...(5448)

Purchase: Bought the KZG CH-II 4-wood with Penley graphite Tour shaft from a club component assembler I found online for $209, including tax.
Pros: What I like best about this particular model 4-wood is the explosive steel face and set up. The ball rockets off the face, which is great off the tee and you get that extra little "umph" off the fairway. The set up is classic in design and easy to align. I chose the midnight black version. The head weight is favorable as well. A bit heavier than other 4-woods I've tried, which I prefer in order to maintain control given my 108mph swing speed. What's nice too is being able to get a custom shaft to fit the club head, and I went with a Penley stiff, mid KP, low torque, 65g model, 42" in length.
Cons: What I would change if I could is the ball flight a bit. It has a great right to left trajectory, which i prefer, but it hits the ball low. I used to have a callaway steel #4 that was also 17 degrees, and the ball flight was a bit higher, but not as long. No worries on the ball height off the tee, but every now and again I wish I had a little extra carry of the fairway.
Quality: Quality is pretty good. I got under one recently that took a nice scratch out of the shiny black finish but I figure that would happen with most club heads. otherwise, it's a solid piece of metal and it does look great.

Review Summary: I like the company and would recommend the club head for those that want a little more loft than a #3 but ok with not having the high ball flight of traditional 4's or 5's. It's a go-for-it club off the deck, and good for tight fairways off the tee without sacrificing too much distance. KZG does a nice job and it goes well with my KZG SP-700 driver for sure.
