On 2004-03-01, Don rated this Leyland LX2 Irons a 5...(2978)

Purchase: The heads were purchased from CSG, a component supplier. The cost of the heads was $78.00 for the set,3-PW, plus $9.75 each for a SW and a Gap Wedge. All of the clubs are real close copies of the Callaway X-16 irons which is why I ordered them.
Pros: All of the clubs were assembled using True Temper Tri-Gold X-stiff shafts and Lamkin grips. All of the clubs were swing weighted at D5 for the head heavy feel that I like. The first time I tried the clubs at the practice range I was impressed by the feel and forgiveness of the clubs. The increase in distance over my old clubs,(Nicklaus CGX, reg flex), was an added bonus. I am now can use one less club for all of my shots. Where I was hitting 170 yards with my 6 iron, I can get that from my 7 iron. Accuracy is as good as I could hope for. I am hitting more greens on the par threes than ever. I have never liked hitting a 3 iron before, but with the LX2's I can hit my new 3 iron much better than ever and the ball flight is nice and high. Something I could never do with my old irons. I have only played one round with the new irons but I shot my best score ever,(89) and I hit more than a few bad tee shots with the driver. In all honesty, I think that with more tee shots in the fairway, I can take 8-10 stokes off of that score without too much trouble. It was the LX2 irons that saved the round. I haven't been playing very long and this was only my third round of golf on a par 72 course. My other rounds were 106, and 103. So to shoot an 89 was a big improvement.
Cons: My only complant about the LX2 heads is that I can't get a 2 iron head. As well as I can hit the 3 iron, I wish a 2 iron was available.
Quality: All of the heads are well made with a nice polished finish. If you don't look at the name on the head, you can't tell it from the Callaway X-16.

Review Summary: Other than not being able to get a matching 2 iron to go with the set, I can' find anything to complain about. The cost of the components is excellent and the quality is first rate. The clubs look real good at set-up and CSG has 60 degree and 64 degree wedges that are nearly a perfect match to the set. In conclusion, I would recommend the set to anyone. The feel of a solidly hit ball is like hitting butter, with almost no sound at impact and a nice high ball flight even with the 3 iron. I can't wait for the weather to warm up so I can break 80.
