On 2007-04-01, Adrian Twiss rated this Louisville Golf Niblick 15 Degree a 4...(7706)

Details: Persimmon headed 3 wood fitted with True Temper Dynnamic Golf R300 and Lamking Crossline Grip.

Purchase: I purchased this club from Persimmon Golf in the UK. Louisville manufacture the heads and ship them over for assembly. You cannot buy a niblick direct from Louisville Golf if you live in the UK as they always honour this arrangment.
Pros: Visually this is one of the most attractive clubs I have seen in a long time. My only very minor gripe is that I prefer the 'oiled' look rather than the polyurethane finish, but I suspect that the varnish will keep the head in good condition for some considerable time. The club is surprisingly easy to hit off the deck given a smooth swing. It gives a penetrating flight with pleny of roll. I hit mine between 215 and 220. It is easier to hit off the deck than my Sonartec NP99 and is about half a club shorter. Off a low tee peg I get between 220 and 225. As it has a shallow face you have to be carefull with your tee height. I had a steel shaft fitted for the sake of control. I am never going to be the longest hitter around so I like to concentrate on accuracy. This club is very straight. I look forward to experimenting with working the ball. Sound and feel are like nothing I have used in a very long time. There is a distinctive 'crack' off the face on contact that takes me back to when I was a lot younger.
Cons: Poor swings are severly punished both in terms of distnace and accuracy. Howver I am willing to invest the time and effort into builing a consistent swing. Also I don't like the leather head cover. Totally unsuitable for British weather.
Quality: Superbly made and, than goodness, the design has evolved to do away with the nylon whipping that was wrapped round the hosel.

Review Summary: In terms of distance this club is up their with every metal fairway wood I have every tried (and I've tried quite a few). It is a very accurate club when hit well but is lower on forgiveness compared to metal woods. The very low centre of gravity meets that, for me, it is one of the easist fairway woods to hit off the deck. As a play a course with a consistent moderate to srong wind the lower ball flight is an added bonus. In the hands of a good ball striker the workability of a persimmon club will prove to be a real bonus. You just can't work a metal headed club as much. Not cheap but worth the money.
