On 2003-03-16, Blaine Ballard rated this Louisville Smart 2 Persimmon Driver a 4...(1020)

Purchase: $125 on Ebay. This was quite the steal considering this club retails for over $300 on Louisville's web site.
Pros: The headsize is smaller, approx. 290cc, which is more to my liking since I haven't been able to hit the grapefruit size drivers that are much the rage these days. Yes, the new drivers have a larger sweet spot, but I also have a hard time bringing the larger head square to the ball. With a slightly shorter shaft, the Smart2 is easier to keep in the fairway. I slice the ball less with the Smart2 than with other Titanium or Steel Drivers that I've tried. Also, the feel and sound of persimmon off the tee is great!
Cons: Despite the companies claim, I do give up some distance vs. others hitting titanium, but not as much as you would think because my drives are generally straighter than my "grip it and rip it" playing partners. The only other negative is that persimmon is not as durable as metal. My club, after a handful of outings, already has some dings.
Quality: Louisville hand makes these clubs to spec, so the fit and finish is outstanding. My driver has high quality components - Graffaloy Graphite stiff flex shaft and a Winn grip.

Review Summary: If you miss hitting wood and you're struggling with hitting the new larger metal drivers like me, then give this a try. Louisville has done a good job incorporating state of the art design with old school head materials to craft a very forgiving club.
