On 2005-03-05, Joe Golfer rated this MacGregor NVG Titanium a 4...(5125)

Purchase: I purchased this at Dick's sporting goods for $399. I was looking for a new oversized driver, and this one caught my eye. I normally hit the ball about 225 on the fly, and I bought the 10.5* driver in the stiff flex (shaft flex is weaker than listed).
Pros: The clubhead is a deep blue, and has a matching deep blue shaft. Very good looks. It says it is 435 cc's, but it looks every bit as big as the 460cc drivers. The sole is somewhat scalloped toward the rear at the heel and toe, probably accounting for the decrease in cc's. Like I said though, the head looks big. There are visible tungsten weights toward the heel on the sole, put there to promote a draw.
Cons: I don't like that the regular flex shaft is so whippy, EXTREMELY whippy. I usually use an R flex, but I bought the Stiff flex in the club because it feels pretty much like what I would expect a Regular flex. I'm not kidding. It's not that the stiff is a little soft, such as somewhere between an R and an S. The stiff flex feels like a regular flex, with plenty of kick.
Quality: Excellent construction and quality.

Review Summary: This club feels good when you hit the ball. It has a lighter than normal titanium crown, which they call a dual Beta titanium crown. This supposedly lowers the weight toward the sole, for a higher launch angle. All I know is that it does hit further than my previous titanium driver, although it was only about 250cc's in clubhead size. I STRONGLY recommend that if you buy this club, that you purchase one with a shaft that is one flex stronger than you normally would play. Waggle it in the store, and take some practice swings in the hitting bay and you will see what I mean.
